Arizona Swimming and Diving March 19, 2003 What's Happening in the Pool This Week?: The sixth-ranked Arizona women’s swimming and diving team heads to Auburn, Ala., for the 2003 NCAA Championships, which will be taking place at the James E. Martin Aquatic Center on the campus of defending champion and current No. 1-ranked Auburn. Arizona brings 10 swimmers and two divers to NCAAs, and the dozen athletes will be participating in a total of 28 individual events as well as four relays. Senior Beth Botsford leads the way for the Wildcats by qualifying for four events. Sophomore Emily Mason, and the freshman trio of Katie Willis, Jenna Gresdal and Marshi Smith are set to swim in three events apiece. • Division I Women's Swimming & Diving Championships
DIVISION I WOMEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS RECORDS BOOK 2015 Championship 2 History 5 All-Time Results 19 2015 CHAMPIONSHIP HIGHLIGHTS California takes its fourth title in the past seven years: Consistency is everything. One national championship is nice, but can be written off as a fluke if if the success is not sustained or predicated. To be in the conversation year in and year out, as Cal women’s swimming and diving head coach Teri McKeever puts it, is the key. For years, McKeever worked to find that success. It came gradually. She was in her seventh year with the Golden Bears before the squad was able to crack the top five in the NCAA Division I national championship meet. It got better, a lot better in fact. Approximately $10 million in donor funds over the year built facilities and scholarship funds suitable for a championship-caliber program. Only once the 2005-06 season has Cal finished as low as fifth in the nationals. And since winning its first national championship in 2009, the Golden Bears have finished no worse than third. “We started to have some success, and I think quality people attract quality people,” McKeever said. “I am very proud of the consistency of the program. To me, that’s the sign of a program ... a philosophy ... a belief ... that a group of women can come in and be their best year after year.” This year’s national crown is Cal’s fourth in the past seven seasons. Consistency? McKeever and the Golden Bears have it all right.

You will also find the standings of the first three places in all events for men and women at the Olympic Games followed by several classifications which are listed either by the number of titles or medals by swimmer or National Federation. It should be noted that these standings only have an historical aim but no sport signification because the comparison between the achievements of swimmers of different generations is always unfair for several reasons: 1. The period of time. The Olympic Games were not organised in 1916, 1940 and 1944 2. The evolution of the programme.

CA is one of 59 Local Swimming Committees (LSCs) within USA Swimming. USA Swimming is one of the National Governing Bodies (NGBs) under the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) and the USOC is part of the Federation Internationale de Natation (FINA). FINA is the swimming organization within the International Olympic Committee (IOC)….the group that organizes the Olympics. So, your club is the grassroots level of membership for swimming that goes all the way up to the Olympics! From San Luis Obispo down to San Clemente and over to Las Vegas, we have about 25,000 athletes, coaches, officials and parent volunteers in our membership. Because our LSC is so large--the largest membership in the country--we have 6 Geographic sub- Committees: Coastal, Desert, Eastern, Metro, Pacific and Orange to help with administration and local competitions. CA oversees registration for all our clubs and individual members, swim meet sanctions—roughly 400 swim meets per year are sanctioned/approved by CA, multiple camps and all-star teams, as well as educational programs for everyone.
