The Foghorn Stringband is the present day gold standard for real-deal hard-hitting genuine old-time American string band music, with nine albums, thousands of shows, over 15 years of touring under their belts, and an entirely new generation of roots musicians following their lead. American roots music is a diverse and never-ending well of inspiration, and Foghorn Stringband continually and obsessively draws from old-time, bluegrass, classic country, and Cajun music traditions in an ongoing quest to present a broad span of American historical music with an unparalleled youthful energy, joy, and virtuosity. The Foghorn Stringband is comprised four master performers and historians: -Caleb Klauder (vocals, mandolin, fiddle) - From Orcas Island, Washington -Reeb Willms (vocals, guitar) - From rural Farmer, Washington -Nadine Landry (vocals, upright bass) - From the Gaspé Coast, Eastern Quebec -Stephen ‘Sammy’ Lind (vocals, fiddle, banjo) - From Minneapolis, Minnesota Each member of Foghorn Stringband exemplifies the best of the roots music traditions from their respective native cultures. Caleb Klauder’s wistful, keening vocals and rapid- fire mandolin picking are as influenced by Southern roots music as much as they are by his upbringing in the sea islands of coastal Washington State. Reeb Willms hails from the wind swept Eastern farmlands of Washington. Her musical family and rural upbringing are are on display with every note she sings and every heart she breaks. -

The VIRTUAL 46Th Annual Alaska Folk Festival
The VIRTUAL 46th Annual Alaska Folk Festival April 5-11, 2021 It gives me tremendous pleasure to say these words that we have all been waiting far too long to hear -- Welcome to the 46th Annual Alaska Folk Festival! After the disappointment of cancelling the 2020 festival, and when it became clear that large gatherings would not be happen- ing for a long time, our all-volunteer board decided to forego the normal 5 month hiatus to keep working to develop a virtual Folk Festival. The lineup and variety of programming that came together far exceeded my expectations of what was possible, and I could not be more proud to be a part of this amazing group of volunteers. One of the silver linings of the pandemic was seeing how folk music and musicians immediately responded to the abrupt can- cellation of live musical performances by finding new and innovative ways to keep the music going. Online performances, workshops and festivals began sprouting up like fireweed shoots after a forest fire. This provided great hope and inspiration for us at the Alaska Folk Festival that the music would continue – no matter what! One striking example of the resilience of folk music came through the Quarantine Happy Hour group. Started in early April, 2020 by Oregon musicians Gabrielle Macrae and Barry Southern (The Horsenecks), this Facebook group began as a live feed for musicians to perform during the height of the pandemic lockdown. One year and twenty thousand followers later, Quaran- tine Happy Hour has featured a live performance every single night since it began! As great friends of the AFF, Gabrielle and Barry graciously offered to lend their platform to help us bring live musical performances to you during this year’s festival. -

He has been nominated to Norwegian Grammys twice in recent years. In Januar 2018 he released his first solo double bass album “Elvesang” to fine reviews in both Norway, Germany, USA and Canada. The new trio album “Encounters” features Hole as the leader of his own trio, with veteran Jarle Vespestad on drums and young talent Håkon Aase on the violin. Inspired by traditional music such as the Indian, Middle Eastern and Norwegian folk music, the trio explores elements from these old musical traditions, combining them with their own expressions as improvising musicians of today. The album title reflects this musical approach. Through all times music has travelled around the world. Developing and changing in meeting different cultures and people. The music on “Encounters” is influenced by the trio members own travels, their own encounters with music from different places around the world. -

Vossa Jazz 2018 Rapport RAPPORT 2018 23. – 25. MARS 1 Vossa Jazz 2018 Rapport At 45, Vossa Jazz is going and blowing strong, with a particularly hearty program and statement of purpose, circa 2018. -
