    Bhilwara Sur Sangam Celebrates its 5th Edition New Delhi, March 7, 2016: LNJ Bhilwara Group, one of country's leading business conglomerates with presence in textiles and power, concluded its two day annual cultural musical festival, Bhilwara Sur Sangam on Sunday. Top classical artists including Arnab Chakrabarty, Dr Ashwini Bhide Deshpande, Ustad Rashid Khan and Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan performed and enthralled the audience in the 5th edition of this program. The blend of young musicians fusing their talents with veterans of Indian classical tradition and one of the rarest jugalbandi of vocal and sitar amused the music lovers of the city. The first day of the musical fest saw performance by Arnab Chakrabarty, whose rigorous approach to musical aesthetics and unique tonal quality hypnotized the listeners. This was followed by a mesmerizing performance of Dr Ashwini Bhide Deshpande who is an outstanding vocalist of the famed ‘Jaipur- Atrauli’ Khayal Gayaki tradition. She represented the new generation of veterans worthy of wearing the mantle of the old masters. Evolved from Dhrupad singing, the Jaipur- Atrauli Gharan acquired its name and status as a Gharana in the early half of the 20th century as a result of the growing popularity of stalwarts of this Gharana. She presented some signature and speciality Raags of this Gharana. Mr Ravi Jhunjhunwala, Chairman, LNJ Bhilwara Group said, “We have always endeavored to spread the rich heritage of Indian classical music through Bhilwara Sur Sangam. Shri Pravin Srivastava, Secretary, M/o Statistics and Programme Implementation and Shri Dinesh Kumar, Deputy Director General (PI) were also present. The list of Members invited for the discussions was divided into two groups. On 7th January, 2019, Members from the States of Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, West Bengal and Gujarat were invited while the Members from the remaining States were invited on 08th Jan, 2019. The list of Hon’ble Members who participated in the discussions is attached as Annex-I. 2. Secretary, MOSPI welcomed and apprised the Hon’ble Members that this discussion is first of its kind for Lok Sabha Members of Parliament. He emphasized that the free flow of ideas and suggestions of Hon’ble Members during the discussions help the Ministry richer in making the Scheme better and shall serve as template for the successors. The Expert Committee for the Performing Arts Grants Scheme (PAGS) met on 14th, 15th ,17thand 18th October, 2013 to consider renewal of salary grants to existing grantees and decide on the fresh applications received for salary and production grants under the Scheme, including review of certain past cases, as recommended in the earlier meeting. The meeting was chaired by Smt. Arvind Manjit Singh, Joint Secretary (Culture). A list of Expert members present in the meeting is annexed. 2. On the opening day of the meeting ie. 14th October, inaugurating the meeting, Sh. Sanjeev Mittal, Joint Secretary, introduced himself to the members of Expert Committee and while welcoming the members of the committee informed that the Ministry was putting its best efforts to promote, develop and protect culture of the country. As regards the Performing Arts Grants Scheme(earlier known as the Scheme of Financial Assistance to Professional Groups and Individuals Engaged for Specified Performing Arts Projects; Salary & Production Grants), it was apprised that despite severe financial constraints invoked by the Deptt. Of Expenditure the Ministry had ensured a provision of Rs.48 crores for the Repertory/Production Grants during the current financial year which was in fact higher than the last year’s budgetary provision. 3. Meena Balimane Sharma, Director, in her capacity as the Member-Secretary of the Expert Committee, thereafter, briefed the members about the salient features of various provisions of the relevant Scheme under which the proposals in question were required to be examined by them before giving their recommendations.
