(Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power 50-323 O.L. Plant Units I and 2) AFFIDAVIT OF THOMAS G. DUNNING I, Thomas G. Dunning, being duly sworn, do depose and state: l. I am employed as a Section Leader by the Instrumentation and Control Systems Branch (ICSB), Division of Systems Integration, Office of Nuclear Regulation, USNRC. A complete description of my professional qualifications is attached to this affidavit. 2. The purpose of re affidavit is to address factual matters raised 'by Joint Intervenors motion to reopen the record in the above captioned proceeding and the "Affidavitof Mr. Richard Burton Hubbard" (February 28, 1980) with respect to environmental qualification and aging of safety-related electrical equipment. 3. The affidavit of Mr. Hubbard states, among other things that: "... new factors pertinent to the Diablo Canyon Station (with respect to NUREG-0588 For Comment) ... demonstrate the need for additional review of environmental qualification of the safety-related structures, systems, and components. My affidavit demonstrates that the information on the qualification program for safety-related items should include (a) an identification of all Diablo Canyon Class I safety-related equipment and (b) an evaluation of aging effects on the qualification of all Diablo Canyon Class I safety-related equipment." (Affidavit, at 3). Bunspss A very beautiful memorial service was held at the Episcopal Cathedral of St. John the Divino, New York City, at 5 o'clock on the evsning of October 25, L923, in honor of the late Henry Marion Howe, who was a vestr5rman in an Episcopal church of that diocese.     AC 2008-1455: WRITING A BOOK ON THE ROLE OF MATERIALS SCIENCE IN MANUFACTURING FOR INSTRUCTION AND RESEARCH: LESSONS LEARNED Rajiv Asthana, University of Wisconsin-Stout RAJIV ASTHANA, Ph.D. (1991, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, materials engineering), is a professor of Engineering and Technology and author or coauthor of three books, Materials Science in Manufacturing (Elsevier, 2006), Solidification Processing of Reinforced Metals (Trans Tech, 1998), and Atlas of Cast Metal-Matrix Composite Structures (Motor Transport Institute, Warsaw, 2007). He is the co-editor of special issues of Current Opinion in Solid State and Materials Science and Materials Science and Engineering A, associate editor of Journal of Materials Engineering and Performance, and on the editorial boards of Ceramics International, Bulletin of Polish Academy of Sciences, and Open Materials Science Journal. Currently, he is co-editing the book, Ceramic Integration and Joining Technology: From Macro- to Nanoscale, for John Wiley & Sons. He teaches courses in engineering materials and processes at the University of Wisconsin-Stout where, in 2007, he was recognized for teaching excellence by the College of Technology, Engineering and Management. Page 13.1412.1 Page © American Society for Engineering Education, 2008 Writing a Book on the Role of Materials Science in Manufacturing for Instruction and Research: Lessons Learned Abstract In 2006, the author and two colleagues published a materials science book that tried to integrate basic elements of processing science and manufacturing technology from a materials scientist’s viewpoint. The book project essentially evolved as a scholarly experiment designed to 1) address opportunities and challenges faced over a decade of instructing students from diverse disciplines, and 2) create a cross-over instructional resource that emphasized the solid role of materials science in manufacturing for use chiefly by students of engineering studying manufacturing processes and materials science.
