THOROLD STONE ROAD EXTENSION TO GALE CENTRE UNDER CONSTRUCTION

In September the Mayor and local Dignitaries broke ground on the Thorold Stone Road extension at Stanley Avenue, a much anticipated construction project for local residents on Fourth Avenue and City Officials. The land donated by Cytec, a chemical company that operated the former Cyanamid plant for generations where the Thorold Stone extension will run through, has a lease agreement with Falls Community Development (FCD), a real estate firm. FCD proposed a partnership with the Region to extend Thorold Stone Rd. to the arena, and the company is planning to redevelop the old Cyanamid site to light industrial and commercial use. That all led to complicated and extended negotiations, which involved the Province’s Ministry of Environment because it involved old industrial land requiring rehabilitation. The Region and City of Niagara Falls are investing about $6.5 million each for the Thorold Stone Rd. extension to the arena and for the intersection and FCD is contributing $1.4 million. The Stanley Avenue reconstruction is scheduled for completion by June 2015.
