Information provided within the document will inform the preparation of a Core Strategy for the District as part of the Local Development Framework, in particular in the consideration of potential development locations within the District and an overall spatial strategy for longer term development having regard to principles of sustainability. 1.2 In his report on the Public Examination into the District Council’s first submitted Core Strategy (withdrawn 2006), the Inspector concluded that although there were proposed housing allocations within some of the District’s rural settlements, there was a lack of evidence in relation to the suitability of villages in the District to accommodate growth. He considered that the relative sustainability of different settlements should have been assessed as part of the preparation of the Core Strategy. He indicated that an assessment of the sustainability of rural settlements would ensure that the scale and location of development outside the District’s two main towns was driven by overall sustainability considerations, rather than simply the availability of previously developed land.

GRAND TRUNK The Lady Beth creeps through Bridge 164 (Booth Lane, Middlewich) in search of a milepost! Photo Roger Evans July/August 2020 www.trentandmerseycanalsociety.org.uk Chairman’s Bit Will July 4th be celebrated as “Independence Day” in England now as well as in the USA??? We have been making a short 1-day cruise each week since they were allowed, but on 4th July we will be heading off for our much-delayed annual “Spring” cruise around the “Four Counties Ring” (and Yes, we have booked Harecastle Tunnel). By the time you read this we will be safely back home plan- ning our next outing (probably the Caldon to see if we fit through Froghall Tunnel). How do I know that we will be safely back home before you read this? Simple, because it is Margaret and I who will be posting it to you … What condition will be find our canal in ? Based on our short local outings, I expect to find the towpath almost invisible from the canal in many places and several bottom lock-gates to be much leakier with locks slower to fill. A couple of weeks of busy boat movements will probably get those gates to swell-up and seal better again, but I suspect that the “invisible” towpaths will take longer to reappear. Never mind, we will enjoy our first week’s cruise regardless and some days we may even forget “Covid-19” still exists. That’s what canal boating is all about. Thank you to the 14 people who returned a Gift-Aid form (physically or on- line) after my appeal in the last issue.

  • Companies Referred to in the Ceramic and Allied Trades Union Collection
Companies referred to in the Ceramic and Allied Trades Union Collection Note - The following is a list of the companies which can be clearly identified in the CATU archive without any risk of confusion, the evidence coming from headed letter paper or something equally unassailable. This list is for information only. We can not retrieve documents from the collection from this list as the documents are spread throughout the collection in different files and have not been indexed. Many documents in the archive are much less clear cut (hand written notes, surveys etc) and it is not always easy to identify precisely which company is being referred to. One frequent potential source of confusion is that potbanks often had their own names, and these may sometimes look like company names. In practice, potbanks could change hands or be divided between more than one company. List of Companies in alphabetical order A B C D E F G H I J K L M N O P R S T V W A Wm.
