Volunteering at HaysMed is a great opportunity for students if they are interested in healthcare as a career. Students must be 14 years of age and not be afraid to interact with family members and patients. Volunteers will visit with family members, escort HaysMed Surgical Waiting Room Volunteer 2019-20 visitors where they need to go, answer the phone in the surgical waiting room, etc. Program There is an application process and orientation. All volunteers need a TB skin test and flu shot to volunteer at the hospital; both are offered free of charge at HaysMed. The program is from 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. See your counselor for details. U.S. Service Academy Appointments are awarded on a competitive basis to qualifying students who are interested in any of the four Armed Forces Academies. The U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Naval Academy, Air Force Academy, and Merchant Marine Academy. Any senior thinking about seeking an appointment to a military academy should act immediately if you have not already done so. To apply to a Deadline as Early as military academy, simply Google it. While the application window for the academies U.S. Service Academy September 7 doesn’t close until later this fall, you should apply ASAP so your qualificat ions can be evaluated, information sent to your Congressmen, and your physical scheduled. Also, U.S. Representative Roger Marshall and U.S. Senators Pat Roberts and Jerry Moran require that students seeking their nominations for an academy appointment must get materials to them very soon. Representative Roger Marshall wants application submitted by mid-October and Senator Pat Roberts Tiger Takeoff is a visit day at FHSU that allows students to get a personalized experience in a group setting. This program gives students the opportunity to research medical topics and create a visual display as well as an oral presentation. Together, the students will gain valuable experience in both research skills and professional presentation skills. October 9 KU Night at the Lab--OPPORTUNITY Each school participating will have one team of three students to represent their school at one of the six regional competitions across the state. Each team's presentation will be judged by a panel of community volunteers. The top team from each of the regional competitions will advance to the statewide competition held at the KU Medical Center where medical center staff and faculty will judge the presentations. The teams advancing to the statewide competition will be rewarded with hotel accommodations, meals and a behind-the-scenes look at the KU Medical Center.
