The Sussex Cardinals made it past the first weekend of the Land O'Lakes playoffs. The Cardinals started the postseason with a 4-2 win over the Merton Amvets during the morning of Aug. 15. Lucas Keller pitched all seven innings for Sussex. Sussex held a 4-1 lead after six innings following a home run by Michael Barnes and two Merton errors. Sussex then defeated the Monches Irish later in the afternoon, 5-2 to advance the Land O'Lakes final four, which will be played at Monches Recreation Park on Aug. 21. Sussex will play Genesee at 10 a.m. The Menomonee Falls Lakers started the postseason with an 8-2 win over Hartland on Aug. 15. The Lakers season came to a close with a 3-2 loss to the Brookfield Bulldogs later in the day.
