CLUB NEWS

Southern Hills Republican Women Lynn Armanino

In June Southern Hills RW had Wes Duncan, Attorney General Adam Laxalt’s First Assistant, as our guest speaker. After Wes told us about the Free Legal Services to Military Members started last November, the club proudly donated to that worthwhile program. Again SHRW walked in Boulder City’s Damboree July 4th Celebration. Most of our candidates were present as we gave out flags, hard candy and copies of the Constitution. Several members that evening attended Brenda Flank’s (an ARW member) 6th Annual Reading of the Declaration of Independence. This was a fundraiser to support her Constitution Day Celebration in September. When it’s dark the fireworks can be seen as far as the eye can travel from left to right. In July SHRW held it’s third annual Back To School Drive for Project 150. Ironically, it was also Project 150’s 3rd Annual Back to School Success Drive which helped homeless high school students go back to school with the tools they need to succeed. With over 3000 homeless high school students in our community, we helped to supply them with back to school items plus socks and underwear. Members also made donations to feed homeless families during Thanksgiving. SHRW purchased four large Thank You cards and had members sign them at our July meeting to pay our respect for BLUE LIVES MATTERS. We mailed one to the Chief of Police in each town: Henderson, Las Vegas, Boulder City and North Las Vegas. Finally, Wednesday is the official SHRW day to work in Joe Heck’s office. We make calls not only for our favorite Representative (soon to be Senator) but his office is supporting all Nevada candidates. One day we could also be calling for Crescent Hardy and the next day for Jim Marchant. Members who can’t make Wednesday go whenever they can.

Sparks Republican Women have voted to acquire a new, on-going project, that of lending a hand to the Nevada Youth Empowerment Project. SRW members will pur- chase twenty $25 Gift Cards from Kohl’s Department Store to mark the birthdays as well as Christmas for the young women who are participating in the Nevada Youth Empowerment Movement (NYEP). Executive Director Monica DuPea was SRW’s July speaker and outlined all of the good the organization has accomplished in aiding young women as they mature into adulthood. They are given the skills to take care of themselves in society.

Fernley RW Carol Franich and Anita Trone

Fernley Republican Women has had a busy summer. The theme of Fernley’s 4th of July parade was “240 Years of Freedom”. Fernley Republican Women represented America’s birthday with the re- creation of the Liberty Bell on our float along with other symbols of freedom such as Lady Liberty, soldiers, patriots, and Betsy Ross. Our junior members and junior associate members were on the float portraying the symbols of freedom. We are proud of our 1st place win in the political category. We also had a booth at the park beautifully decorated and staffed by members of the FRW. We have a booth every year at the park to expose the community to FRW and to register voters. Folks along the parade route were also registering to vote.

In July, we had a wonderful turnout of our members and guests at our Member Reception to encourage membership in the FRW. It was a great evening of food, drink, conversation and relaxation! The Fernley Republican Women have welcomed an additional adopted soldier, Dustin Contenti. He is currently in the US Army deployed to Afghanistan. His duties are patrol, investigation and customs. We thank him for his service and wish him well and pray for his safe return at the end of the year. In the following months, FRW has scheduled Carol Del Carlo, candidate for University Board of Regents, District 9 to speak at our August meeting and Assemblywoman Robin Titus, candidate for re- election, to speak at our September meeting.

Carson City Republican Women Nancy Dallas

The political season is upon us and the CCRW is having an active and productive summer. Lt. Governor Mark Hutchison addressed our June luncheon. He spoke to his three primary interests: Economic Development, Job Growth and Tourism. Also in attendance were Secretary of State Barbara Cegavske, NvFRW President Lori Pi- otrowski and NvFRW Treasurer Priscilla Campbell. In July the CCRW forgoes its regular luncheon and joins with Carson City Republican Party to co-sponsor the an- nual Freedom Fest BBQ. This popular event is held on the beautiful grounds of Glen Eagles. The large crowd en- joyed the great weather, great food, music and Republican camaraderie. In addition, the night of Donald Trump’s nomination, members attended a Trump rally at Glen Eagles restaurant. On August 1 many of our members attended and as- sisted with the Carson City rally for Republican V.P. nominee Mike Pence. Over 400 area residents were in attendance.

RWR had a busy July even though we were dark for our July meeting. On Friday, July 8th, several members attended a Celebration of Life for long time member and Past President, Nancy Hollinger. On Saturday, the 8th many RWR members and other Republicans worked with our Past President Sally Miller at her lovely Quail Canyon Ranch during her popular annual Branding and Breakfast. Visitors were treated to a hearty breakfast, live bluegrass music and authentic cattle branding. Everyone had to hang onto their cowboy hats, as the dusty winds so typical of Nevada contributed to the western mood. Among the attendees were NvFRW Northern District Director Diane Baranowski; NvFRW 2nd VP for Membership Caroline Smith; as well as several local officials. The RWR thank Sally for her generosity in annu- ally hosting this fun event. Some RWR members took a break Sally Miller & Kathy Doyle from politics on Sunday, July 10th, for a social outing to attend a matinee performance by the Reno Little Theater (RLT). The performance was “Side By Side,” a musical review of the Broad- way songs by Steven Sondheim. The photo is of the group at lunch at a Reno brew pub before the show. Several RLT players performed songs for free at our Mad Hatter Tea Party in April, and this attendance was to thank RLT for their support. Longtime member Patty Cafferata was a delegate to the RNC; our 1st Vice President Victoria Crockett attended as a guest, and our Associate RLT attendees member Caroline Smith was there as a delegate. For August we look forward to resuming our regular meeting schedule with guest speaker Congress- man Mark Amodei on August 11th. For this special occasion we have invited past presidents (7) to at- tend as a group. We invite all to join with us for this special program at the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa for our lunch- eon at 11:30. Reservations: 866-806-5501. It is $20 if you make a reservation and $25 at the door.

President’s Message cont. to attend. You will hear directly from Eileen Sobjack, NFRW 3rd vice president and director of our region. AMAZING! AMAZING! AMAZING! What other word could describe the National Republican Convention. What an experience! To hear the incredible speakers, shake hands with our new soon-to-be President and Vice- President, to feel the love. I went to every nook and crevice of the giant auditorium, greeting fellow loyal Republi- cans whose enthusiasm and dedication was un- matched to anything I’ve ever experienced. I stood next to the stage as Rudy Giuliani mes- merized the crowd with his rhetorical skills remi- niscent of such great speakers such as Ronald Reagan. He recalled the great country we all grew up in and galvanized the delegates to act to restore our treasured values. Then there was Chris Christie. Governor Christie mock-tried Hillary, enumerating each of her derelictions, although a stronger word would have been more appropriate. At end of each enumeration, he would ask, “Guilty or Not Guilty?” A roar from the crowd shouted, “Guilty!” Let me not pass over the unbelievable Trump children. Each gave a heart-felt speech that was an honor to their father and a testa- ment to his character. And after their speeches, no one could truly decide which were the most articulate, the most outstanding, and the most impressive. Of course, the highlight was Mr. Trump, whose dynamism and sincerity and love of coun- try, electrified the crowd. His speech ran longer than planned due to the incessant cries of adula- tion and clapping. I was literally brought to tears in hopes that this was the man, the man who could “Make America Great Again.”

NFRW - WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW Lori Piotrowski

In July, the NFRW held its "fall" board meeting at the National Republican Convention in Cleve- land. This was an abbreviated board meeting to fill us in on budget and finances, but even more im- portantly, a schedule of Rosie's stops throughout the United States. (See below for information on when Rosie will be in Nevada.) Rosie is touring to promote voter registration, but she is also a formidable re- minder that women matter and women vote! The Ohio Federation of Republican Women hosted the board members at a tea earlier that day. We were pleased to meet Lieutenant Governor Mary Taylor, who graciously welcomed all of us to Ohio and to the convention. Events such as this are invaluable as we meet our colleagues in other states and compare problems, solutions, and goals. Inevitably, we leave with new friends.

ROSIE IN NEVADA

Lake Tahoe August 27

Las Vegas August 31

We are so excited to welcome Rosie to Nevada! NFRW President Carrie Almond and her driver will make two stops (and possibly more) in the Silver State. Her first stop will be in Lake Tahoe when she rolls into Harrah's park- ing lot to attend the Nevada Republican Central Committee meeting on Au- gust 27. Several days later, Rosie will roll back into Nevada, this time parking in Las Vegas and cruising Las Vegas Boulevard. We are working out details about both days, and will e-mail information to you once that is finalized. You’ll also find information on the NvFRW Facebook page as well as on www.NvFRW.org We are inviting elected officials and candidates to join us. And we may even have a special speaker. Come see the bus and bring a friend. Meet Carrie and help us register voters. Sign the bus!
