This should explain the objectives of your project, why there is a need for it, any development or changes you plan to make to the land or building, and any activities that will take place there. Haddo Country Park has enjoyed the services of a Visitor Services Officer (VSO) and during the summer months (up to and including 2017) an Assistant Visitor Services Officer (AVSO) thanks to the HLF 'Haddo Country Park Regeneration Project' which concluded on 31st March 2018 but, due to an underspend, was able to continue the employment of a VSO until 31st July 2018. Employment of a VSO has continued with the Haddo Country Park Forum Ltd (Forum Ltd.) being the employer since 1st August 2018. The addition of a VSO to Haddo Country Park is of great benefit to users of the Park, to all visitors to Haddo and to the profile of Haddo as a major visitor destination in the North East of Scotland. By being available to answer visitors queries or to give advice on which of the many parts of Haddo House and Haddo Country Park visitors might prefer to see the VSO is a rare asset that is not found in other Country Parks. The VSO is able to secure, promote and if necessary run events within the Country Park that are of general or specific interest to existing and new visitors to Haddo. These include many bushcraft events, art exhibitions in the Pheasantry and wider Country Park, Photography events that are popular with amateur and professional photographers, children's events including junior bushcraft and a 'blessing of unicorns' involving a number of very prettily made up ponies and their riders from far and wide, disabled riding events, short and long distance runs, Haddo Easter event (principally run by the Rotary Clubs of Ellon and Oldmeldrum but supported and promoted by the VSO) and, along with Aberdeenshire Council and The National Trust for Scotland a variety of events over a full day or longer in recognition of 'The Year of History, Heritage and Archeology' in 2017 and in 2018 'The Year of Young People'. The VSO also manages the Haddo Country Park social media and website. We have more than 5,000 followers on Facebook. The VSO has started a Haddo Country Park Volunteers group on social media. There are a number of volunteering opportunities from tending the sensory garden close to the entrance to the Park and the garden at Carpenters Cottage (which have been worked on by disability groups from Ellon in the Aberdeenshire Council Asset Transfer Request Form 2018 7 Item: 6 Page: 14 Aberdeenshire COUNCIL From mountain to sea past) to assisting with events such as 'The Enchanted Forest' around Halloween open to all which are both popular and enjoyable.

The settlement is characterised by the woodland setting of Balmedie House and the long sand beaches of Balmedie Country Park. Balmedie is a key settlement in both the Energetica area and the Aberdeen to Peterhead strategic growth area (SGA). As such, Balmedie will play an important role in delivering strategic housing and employment allowances. Balmedie is expected to become an increasingly attractive location for development as the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route reaches completion and decreases commuting times to Aberdeen. It is important that the individual character of the village is retained in the face of increased demand. The village currently has a range of services and facilities, which should be sustained during the period of this plan. They include layered cumulates andxenolithic, contaminated and granular gabbroic varieties. The structurallycomplex Huntly- Knock intrusions contain locally significant quantities of Fe-Ni-Cu sulphide, while the associated country rock metasediments are sporadically enriched in Fe-sulphide. Sulphur isotope analyses on sulphide from within and around the intrusions give the following ranges of 6”s; -0.1 to -1.7% for disseminated to massive sulphides in the complex and deformed Littlemill-Auchencrieve contact zone; i0.7 to +4.3% for disseminated interstitial sulphides within cumulate and granular rocks; +1.7 to +6.0% for graphitic and sulphidic pyroxenitic pegmatites; -6.0 to +16.5% for disseminated sulphide from country rock metasediments; -4.0 to +8.2% for sulphides in partially melted sediments. 634Sof sulphides in the igneous rocks (2 = +0.5 f 2.4% (la), n = 36) lie within the range usually indicatedfor primary magmatic sulphur, i.e. Of3%, so thatthe sulphide system was probably dominated bymagmatic sulphur. There is, however, a distinct difference between the isotopically heavier cumulate and granular rocks (j = f2.4 f 1.2% (la) n = 9) and the lighter sulphide of the contact zone (i= -1.1 f 0.4% (la), n = 21).

The region has none of the haggis-ancl-bagpipe tour­ ist trappings of the Northern Highlands, no peekaboo prehistoric monsters in its lochs, and not even much claim to the greatest pages of Scottish history. But what it does have-aside from an unspoiJ ed natural beauty all its own-is a remarkable concentra­ ti on of castl es, many in the baronial style unique to Scotland. In fa ct, so many are clustered near the banks of the Dee that the area is known as the Royal Deeside. Even on a misty day, the hills and fields of the Deeside and Donside are a brilliant green, like The Wizard of Oz's Emeralcl City. Other colors do dot the landscape-gold broom growing wild along the roads ide, gray granite cottages, black and white cows and sheep- but they only make the gl·een look greener. It would be dazzling if it weren't also so sleepy.
