Andy Banachowski begins his 41st year as the head coach of fourth-place fi nish at the FIVB U-20 Junior World Championships, the Coaching Highlights the Bruins’ women’s volleyball program. Banachowski and UCLA best-ever fi nish for the in that tournament. Record: 1,055-279 (.791) women’s volleyball have been synonymous since the program’s inception in 1965. Bruin former players have won more FIVB International events than players from any All-Pacifi c Region Honorees: 43 All-American awards. Banachowski has also coached players to numerous other awards, including 43 All-Pacifi c Region honors, 85 other college. All-Conference Honorees: 85 All-Pacifi c-10 awards, fi ve Pac-10 Players of the Year and the National Pac-10 Players of the Year: 5 On Oct. 24, 1997, Banachowski became the fi rst women’s volleyball Player of the Year in 1992 (Natalie Williams). Eighteen Bruins have coach in history to be inducted into the National Volleyball Hall of Fame All-NCAA Tournament Honorees: 18 earned All-NCAA Tournament accolades, including Williams, who was as a coach. He has since become the fi rst volleyball inductee into the Honda Award Winners: 3 named Most Outstanding Player in both 1990 and 1991. Williams also Serra High School and San Mateo County Halls of Fame. won two Honda Awards under Banachowski’s tutelage in 1992 and ‘93, with Lis Masakayan earning the honor in 1985. In May 2000, Banachowski was presented with USA Volleyball’s highest honor, the All-Time Great Coach Award, and was simultaneously Honors and Distinctions The Bruins have won six national championships over Banachowski’s honored with the George L. Fisher “Leader in Volleyball” award, AVCA National Coach of the Year: 2 (1989, 2006) tenure, winning the program’s fi rst title in 1972 while affi liated with recognizing his off-court endeavors on behalf of volleyball.
