Pat Bowlen & Gil Brandt Selected As Finalists for Hall of Fame's Class of 2019 Honor the Heroes of the Game, Preserve its History, Promote its Values & Celebrate Excellence EVERYWHERE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 08/23/2018 PAT BOWLEN & GIL BRANDT SELECTED AS FINALISTS FOR HALL OF FAME’S CLASS OF 2019 CONTRIBUTORS COMMITTEE SELECTS DENVER BRONCOS OWNER & FORMER DALLAS COWBOYS PERSONNEL DIRECTOR AS FINALISTS FOR ELECTION CANTON, OHIO – Denver Broncos Owner Pat Bowlen and former Dallas Cowboys vice president of player personnel Gil Brandt were selected as the Contributors Finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Class of 2019. Bowlen and Brandt were picked by the Hall of Fame’s Contributors Committee who met today at the Hall. Bowlen is the longtime owner of the Broncos. His outstanding contributions to the Broncos as well as the National Football League has established him as one of the greatest and most influential contributors in league history. He is the only owner in NFL history to achieve 300 overall victories during his first 30 seasons. Under his leadership, the Broncos had an unprecedented run of success. The franchise has won three Super Bowls – XXXII, XXXIII and 50. The Broncos also claimed seven AFC championships under Bowlen (1986, 1987, 1989, 1997, 1998, 2013 and 2015). “This is a great, great day for Denver and the Rocky Mountain region,” shared Joe Ellis, the Broncos President & CEO upon learning of Bowlen’s nomination. As vice president of player personnel for the Cowboys from 1960-89, Brandt helped Dallas grow into one of the most powerful and popular sports franchises in America. His innovative management and personnel systems are standard operating procedure today for many teams at the professional and collegiate levels nationwide. Brandt has spent the last 10 years as NFL.com's main personnel guru and offers insight and commentary on all aspects of players and teams. “This is, without question, one of the greatest things that have happened in my life,” Brandt shared after he learned the news from Hall of Fame President David Baker. COMMITMENT • INTEGRITY • COURAGE • RESPECT • EXCELLENCE The Contributors Committee is comprised of nine members of the overall selection committee. Through mail vote, the 2019 Contributor nominees were reduced to a list of 10 semifinalists. Then, on a rotating basis, five of the nine members of the committee met at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton to discuss each of the Contributors nominees and today selected Bowlen and Brandt. The Contributor category is for individuals who made outstanding contributions to professional football in capacities other than playing or coaching. To be elected to the Hall of Fame, Bowlen and Brandt must receive the same 80 percent voting support by the entire 48-member Selection Committee on “Selection Saturday.” The Hall’s Selection Committee, at its annual meeting to be held on Saturday, February 2, 2019 in Atlanta, Ga., will consider 18 finalists, including a Senior (Johnny Robinson), two Contributors (Bowlen and Brandt), and 15 Modern-Era Finalists (to be determined from a preliminary list announced on September 13; trimmed to 25 semifinalists in November and to 15 finalists in January). Current bylaws call for a class no smaller than four or larger than eight. The Senior and Contributor Finalists will be voted on for election independent of the other finalists. The Class of 2019 will be formally enshrined during the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Week Powered by Johnson Controls in Canton next August 1-4. CONTRIBUTOR FINALISTS A bylaws change to the selection process was instituted in August 2014 by which a Contributor – defined as an individual who has “made outstanding contributions to professional football in capacities other than playing or coaching” – will automatically be included among the annual list of finalists for election. After his birth 70 years ago as the son of a Canadian wildcatter and a steadfast Wisconsinite, Patrick Dennis Bowlen never stopped skating, swimming, skiing, biking, hiking, competing and running. He ran as a youngster so he could play football and hockey. He ran the 440 in track in high school. He ran wind sprints and pass routes trying to make the University of Oklahoma football team. In his 20s, Pat ran his own law firm. He later would run several of his father's businesses, then run an independent oil and gas and natural resource company he started. He passionately ran hundreds of miles a week. He ran the New York City Marathon in 3 hours, 3 minutes. He ran, biked and swam in two Ironman events on the Big Island of Hawaii and finished 137th, then 135th out of a thousand entries, the majority half his age. Then before stepping down as owner Tuesday because of his battle with Alzheimer's disease, he ran the Denver Broncos for 30 years to six Super Bowls and 307 victories with only five losing seasons. He ran the franchise to two Super Bowl championships and the pinnacle of prestige, pride and power in the National Football League. He ran the campaign to get, and help fund, a new stadium for Denver. He ran first in the race to keep John Elway in Denver as a quarterback and make him the highest-paid player in the NFL, to bring Elway back to the organization as the chief of football operations and the effort to bring Peyton Manning to Denver.

[Laughter] I don't know, it doesn't seem to work as well for me. [Laughter] Let's give it up for the Super Bowl Champion Denver Broncos! [Applause] Yes! We have some big Broncos fans in the house, including Mayor Hancock from the great city of Denver, outstanding Members of Congress, the delegation. I want to recognize Broncos CEO Joe Ellis, a couple of your former quarterbacks: GM John Elway, Coach Gary Kubiak. And let's give a big round of applause to Mrs. Annabel Bowlen. As many of you know, Annabel is here on behalf of the Bowlen family and her husband Pat, the longtime Broncos owner who's inspiring all of us with his courageous fight against Alzheimer's. And it's only fitting that when they won the Super Bowl in February, John declared from the podium: "This one is for Pat!" And I was just—we were backstage talking, the record that Pat was able to put together, going to more Super Bowls than losing seasons, that's pretty remarkable. You're not going to see that duplicated many places; that's a testimony to what an extraordinary owner he has been and continues to be.

    NFL RAISES MORE THAN $20 MILLION AND REACHES ONE MILLION PEOPLE THROUGH CRUCIAL CATCH INITIATIVE IN PARTNERSHIP WITH AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 10/3/19 NFL AND AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY (ACS) CONTINUE THE FIGHT AGAINST CANCER CRUCIAL CATCH • Since 2012, NFL funding has reached more than one million people nationwide with education, navigation and screening reminders • More than $20 million has been raised and donated to ACS through the partnership For the 11th consecutive season, the National Football League and the American Cancer Society are working together to support the fight against cancer through "Crucial Catch: Intercept Cancer." The initiative, which kicks off in stadiums this weekend and continues to be highlighted through Week 7 games, addresses early detection and risk reduction efforts for multiple cancers. Since 2009, more than $20 million has been raised and donated to ACS through the partnership. Funds donated through Crucial Catch this season will continue to support the American Cancer Society’s Community Health Advocates implementing Nationwide Grants for Empowerment and Equity (CHANGE) Program, a community-based grant program that provides grant opportunities to community health centers to support systems-level change and increased access to low- or no-cost cancer screenings in underserved communities. CHANGE grants are currently being administered in each NFL market to address Breast Health Equity, access to screenings, education, and follow- up care. This work will help reduce the disparity in breast cancer survival among African American women, who die at an almost 40% higher rate of breast cancer. Since 2012, CHANGE grants have contributed to 326,700 screenings and have reached more than 1 million individuals with education, screening reminders and patient navigation, bringing these life-saving messages and screening services to those who need them most.
