131st TOURNAMENT OF ROSES PARADE PROPOSAL ATTRACTIONS/AMUSEMENT PARKS/MEAL OPTIONS Listed below are some of the many of the options that can be included during your group’s visit to Southern California. LOS ANGELES & ORANGE COUNTY AREA ATTRACTIONS BANDFEST DAY (FLOATS/PHOTOS/PERFORMANCE) Upon arrival at the Rose Bowl, there will be time to see hundreds of volunteers adding their final touches to the colorful floats. These floats have been in the planning stages for over a year and you can be one of the first to get a behind-the-scenes look at these magnificent works of art. Dress in full uniform and get your picture taken in front of the Rose Bowl Stadium before continuing on to the Rose Bowl Family Festival. This is an all week festival of flowers, music, horses, sports, food and exhibits. There will be an open-air food court, souvenir and novelty boutiques, band concerts, equestrian demonstrations and much more. Depart the Rose Bowl for the Pasadena City College and get ready to show off your talents in this year’s Tournament of Roses BANDFEST. Lunch is an IN-N-Out Burger provided by the Tournament of Roses Association. Crowds of up to 3,000 people will cheer you on as you perform in Robinson Stadium. Following Bandfest, pack up your uniforms and instruments, load the coaches and drive the parade rote and see the excitement building along the five-mile journey. See where the staging area is, the “105 degree turn” from Orange Grove Blvd. & Colorado Blvd. and the grandstands where parents and friends will be sitting and cheering. From free music lessons to intimate conversations with music’s brightest stars, The GRAMMY Museum engages, informs and inspires visitors of all ages. It explores and celebrates the enduring legacies of all forms of music; the creative process; the art and technology of the recording process; and the history of the GRAMMY® Awards, the premier recognition of recorded music accomplishment. The GRAMMY Museum is an exciting and interactive celebration of the power of music occupying a vibrant new space in downtown Los Angeles. The education staff is focused on using music as a gateway to learning by providing hands-on experiences that allow students to deepen their understanding of music, culture and history. The integration of California state and national content standards, coupled with state-of-the-art technology, creates a cutting-edge, 21st-century learning environment. From instrument classes and music production workshops emphasizing career pathways, to outreach programs that extend past the traditional walls of the Museum, diverse learners of all ages benefit. Location: Downtown Los Angeles Time commitment: 2-3 hours SONY PICTURES STUDIOS EXPERIENCE Walk through the famed gates and you’re behind the scenes at one of the most historic and exciting studio lots in the world. Our two-hour guided walking tour will give you the real experience of a working studio. Visit soundstages once home to iconic films like “The Wizard of Oz,” “Men in Black” and “Spider-Man.” Swing by smash-hit games shows “Jeopardy!” and “Wheel of Fortune.” You might even catch a glimpse of the Barbra Streisand Scoring stage or a set from the hit comedy, “The Goldbergs.” Keep your eyes open... You never know what – or who – will be around the next corner. Location: Hollywood Time commitment: 3 hours (will have to break up into smaller groups) MADAME TUSSAUDS HOLLYWOOD Madame Tussauds Hollywood is the best new wax attraction in LA, next to the Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, where you can see, touch and take photos with Hollywood’s celebrities under one roof! Who do you want to meet? They’ve taken down the museum-style ropes and poles to let you get up-close and personal to some of the world’s most influential figures. Experience some of the greatest movie moments recreated from contemporary cinema and join multiple A-List celebrities at a movie premiere party or awards ceremony. Or you can dunk a basketball or stand behind home plate alongside some of today’s top athletes. You will also learn about the history of Madame Tussauds and how the wax figures are made and even make your own wax hand cast to create a 3-D mold as a souvenir. Location: Hollywood 131st TOURNAMENT OF ROSES PARADE PROPOSAL Time commitment: 2-3 hours J. PAUL GETTY MUSEUM The J. Paul Getty Museum started from the oil millionaire's private collection. Today's Getty Museum, designed by architect Richard Meier, occupies 750 acres of land in the Santa Monica Mountain foothills. Beautiful travertine-clad hilltop facility houses stunning collections of paintings, drawings, antiquities, photographs and decorative arts. Fabulous central garden and city views. The Getty Center includes an art collection so large it takes four exhibit pavilions just to show part of it, and the complex includes nine buildings in total. Location: Los Angeles (north oF Santa Monica) Time commitment: 2-3 hours GRIFFITH’S OBSERVATORY LA’s landmark Griffith Observatory features 60 exhibits that bring the wonders of space down to earth. Griffith Observatory is an icon of Los Angeles, a national leader in public astronomy, a beloved civic gathering place, and one of southern California's most popular attractions. The Observatory is located on the southern slope of Mount Hollywood in Griffith Park, the largest urban park in America. It is 1,134 feet above sea level and is visible from many parts of the Los Angeles basin. Location: Los Angeles Time commitment: 1-2 hours MUSEUM OF TOLERANCE The Museum of Tolerance is a high tech, hands-on experiential museum that focuses on two central themes through unique interactive exhibits: the dynamics of racism and prejudice in America and the history of the Holocaust – the ultimate example of man’s inhumanity to man. The Museum, the education arm of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, was founded to challenge visitors to confront bigotry and racism, and to understand the Holocaust in both historic and contemporary contexts. Following the tour, you have the option to reserve the theater for a private lecture from a Holocaust survivor. The 45-minute lecture will be followed by a 15-minute Question & Answer session. The museum offers optional educational tools and programs for those teachers interested. Tools for Tolerance for Teen is designed for middle and high school students who constitute the majority of Museum visitors. The program expands upon the museum of tolerance experience, challenging youth to assume greater personal responsibility, recognize and reject all forms of prejudice, and deal more sensitively with others. Visitors explore interactive exhibits that engage the viewer in multiple experiences. Continue onto the Air Force One Pavilion and walk onboard the actual Air Force One aircraft, tail number 27000, which flew seven U.S. presidents. Or visit the Oval Office and view a full-size replica of the White House Oval Office, the office in which President Reagan never took off his suit jacket. In a storied career that spanned more than five decades, Ronald Reagan inspired Americans to act and achieve even more than they imagined. His legacy thrives at The Reagan Library where events and exhibits rediscover his values, actions and spirit of determination. Location: Simi Valley (north oF Los Angeles) Time commitment: minimum 3 hours AQUARIUM OF THE PACIFIC Take a journey of discovery through the world's largest ocean at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, California. Meet more than 11,000 animals as you explore sunny Southern California and Baja, the frigid waters of the North Pacific, and the colorful reefs of the Tropical Pacific. Come face-to-face with, and even touch, the ocean's ultimate predators in Shark Lagoon. Join us on a Behind-the-Scenes tour. The Aquarium features a NOAA Science on a Sphere, which exhibits imagery and real-time ocean and weather data on a six-foot diameter globe.
