The initiative includes public service announcements on radio, a mask-wearing campaign, social media engagement opportunities, and a COVID-Safe Pledge. The goal is to encourage individuals, groups, and businesses to respect and protect public health by following mask wearing guidelines provided by the Pennsylvania Department of Health and the CDC as well as other public health best practices. The Spotlight is putting the focus on our positive response to the pandemic rather than statistics and is encouraging people to work cooperatively in favor of public health rather than being punitive about those who are not being helpful Here’s how you can participate: • Listen for the PSAs, voiced by prominent citizens Mike Glazer and Hank Baylor, on local radio stations. • Wear a mask whenever you are around people from other Dave Shope, Assistant Vice President Business Development, Ser- households and you cannot distance, both indoors and out. First-year and transfer students will move in representative from PACFI as originally planned in mid-August, while returning students will follow in two-week incre- ments. All students will be required to test negative for COVID-19 before arriving to campus. “We have been watching prudently and planning ar- dently for the return to cam- pus, as well as learning from the successes and mistakes of others. As much as we want to welcome students back to campus, we want even more so to complete the fall term together, which is why we’ve adjusted the move-in sched- ule,” said University President Jonathan D. Green. As outlined in its Return to Campus Fall 2020 Plan, the university has updated pro- cedures to accommodate a residential learning environ- ment during the global health pandemic. Among other safety measures including COVID-19 testing for faculty, staff and students, the plan also prescribes members of the Susquehanna community to maintain a safe physical distance, wear face coverings in classrooms and other public spaces, greatly enhance their health and hygiene practices and, when needed, allow fl ex- ibility for remote instruction for faculty and students. “We are committed to fulfi ll- ing our mission to educate stu- dents for productive, creative and refl ective lives of achieve- ment, leadership and service in a diverse, dynamic and in- terdependent world. Part of that commitment is to do all we can to keep all members of our community safe and healthy,” Green said. First-year and transfer stu- dents will register for blocks of time to move in between Tues- day, Aug. 18 and Thursday, Aug. 20. Seniors will return Sept. 5 and 6, and all other stu- dents will return Sept. 19 and 20. Susquehanna will prorate housing and meal costs based on students’ move-in date. Classes are scheduled to be- gin on Susquehanna’s campus Monday, Aug. 24. Return- ing students — sophomores, juniors and seniors — will attend classes remotely until they arrive on campus.
