1st Annual District 6 Safety Fair & Outdoor Movie Night at Willow Street Frank Bramhall Park

Harvey Darnell, N. Willow Glen President; Michael Mulcahy, President of the Willow Glen Business Assn.; Norma Ruiz, Executive Director of the Willow Glen Business Assn.; Councilmember Oliverio, Michael LaRocca, Sherman Oaks President; Jeff Rogers, Shasta Hanchett President; Ed Rast, Past Willow Glen President & Larry Ames, Willow Glen President District 6 A MESSAGE FROM COUNCILMEMBER OLIVERIO Dear District 6 Neighbors,

D-6 has been busy with events. I had the first D-6 Safety Fair & Movie Night and I organized the first D-6 Parks and Historical Preservation Forum and Animal Fair. The Westside Children’s Initiative held a children’s fair at Del Mar and Hester Park re-opened with new play equipment. These events were informative and fun. I will continue to have the D-6 Safety Fair and Movie night annually. In addition, Mayor Reed and I joined Rebecca Morgan, creator of “Books for Treats” to distribute books instead of candy for the Halloween Parade on Lincoln Avenue in an effort to promote the importance of reading.

This month, I wrote a memo asking the council to move forward in purchasing the land available for the Spur Trail also known as the between the boundary of and Highway 87. This land has been identified in the Greenprint for trail use. My memo was accepted by council and the city is now moving forward in negotiating this purchase. In addition, I am also requesting that a Focus Group be created that consists of government and community members and staff because I believe that collaboration is key when investing in our trails.

The San Jose City Council meetings are held every Tuesday at 1:30 PM and every other Tuesday night at 7:00 PM at City Hall (www.csj.gov). You can also view the meetings on channel 26.

I wish you and your family health and happiness and a safe and Happy New Year New. Up to three-fourths of the Municipal Rose Garden’s 3,500 bushes were done by noon.
