PLEASE TAKE NOTE Father Dan is recuperating from his recent cancer surgery on Friday, and must take at least a few days to rest and regain his strength. We will have the morning Mass throughout the week at 8:00 am, but there will be NO 12:00 pm or 7:00 pm MASS OR ADORATION THIS MONDAY ONLY. Father Michael will say the morning Mass this week. Hopefully Father Dan will be up and run- ning by Friday to resume the normal schedule. My Dear Parishioners: O Worship the Lord in the This week we have begun the yearly journey of Lent. The word Beauty of Holiness Lent means Spring, and like the seasonal Spring, it is a time of anticipation; looking for life after the long winter sleep. Like The Sanctuary Light will burn this week in Spring Lent calls forth life from us . During this time we recall memory of Fred and Augusta Schwab by Mary Rose the forty days in which Jesus remained in the desert in faithful prayer and fasting. These days in the wilderness prepared Christ The Blessed Mother Votive light will burn to face, with courage ,the ministry He was to begin. Our Lenten this week in memory of the Rev. P. Fitzpatrick by Susanne observance begins with the words we heard on “remember that you are dust and unto dust you shall return”. The Sacred Heart Votive Light will burn These words are not a put down, or to insult our dignity, but this week in honor of Brendan Patrick Sestito rather they remind us of a very real and often overlooked fact of (B’day) Gift of Dad life; that our body is limited, it is finite, it will one day decay and turn to dust. It is a common fact that we entered this world and No Flowers are on the Altar during that we will surely leave this world one day. Lent reminds us Holy Lent that this old world is not our permanent home. That we are headed to God, and that we must travel this earthly life with our The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass eyes fixed on that life that will have no end. Lent reminds us of the important things of life are not possessions we can collect, Sat. 5:00pm & 6:30pm but the riches that will follow us into eternity. Lent not only Sun: 7:30am; 9:00am (Latin) reminds us of Heaven, but is firmly rooted in the practicality of 10:30am & 12:00noon human life. Someone once said that a person could be so heavenly minded, that they are no earthly good. Lent tells us that Daily: Mon.– Sat. 8:00am with our spiritual eyes fixed on Heaven, we must be rooted in Monday & Friday 12:00 (Latin) the practical here and now, by our charity and concern for the : Monday 8:30am-7:00pm poor and needy. The three facets of Lent are really three sides of one reality, our desire to become one with Christ. Novena Mass; Mon., Wed. 7:00 pm; Sat. 8:00 am Praying: A renewed life of prayer requires time. Below are some of the rules and regulations binding on Roman Catholics on Ash Wednesday and throughout the penitential season of Lent. Roman Catholics must fast and abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday, Wednesday, February 26, 2020 and Good Friday, April 10, 2020. Addition- ally, they must abstain from meat on all Fridays during Lent. Ash Wednesday is one of two yearly days of obligatory fasting and abstinence for Roman Catholics, along with Good Friday. According to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, the norms of fasting are obligatory from age 18 until age 59. Fasting means a person is permitted to eat one full meal. Two smaller meals may also be taken, but they are not to equal that of a full meal. The rule of abstinence from meat is binding upon Catholics aged 14 and onwards. “Those that are excused from fast and abstinence outside the age limits include the physically or mentally ill including individuals suffering from chronic illnesses such as diabetes. Also excluded are pregnant or nursing women. In all cases, common sense should prevail, and ill persons should not further jeopardize their health by fasting.” The other obligatory day of fasting and abstinence is Good Friday, the day on which Catholics remember the death of Jesus on the cross. On the U.S. Bishops website, they explain the Good Friday fast should, when possible, last through the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday night. While those are the only two days of full fasting and abstinence required, all of Lent should be a time of spiritual formation and preparation for Easter. “For all other weekdays of Lent, we strongly recommend participation in daily Mass and a self-imposed observance of fast- ing,” THE EASTER DUTY: To Make your at Least once a year. (If once a year it is to be done between Ash Wed and Pentecost). To Receive Holy Communion at least once in the year. (Easter). The Emphasis here is Receive Holy Coming, NOT JUST GOING TO MASS ONCE A YEAR. That would be a serious mortal sin.

For those not receiving Holy Communion we offer the following prayer. My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and Parish Staff I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come Pastor: spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never V. Rev. Daniel C. Hesko, VF permit me to be separated from You. Friday Stations of the Cross Make the Stations every Friday after the Noon and Evening Mass Stations begin at 12:45 and 7:30. Follow Christ in this venerable Lenten practice, as He made the Journey to Calvary for our Salvation

The Stations of the Cross are synonymous with Lent. This devotion is also known as the "Way of the Cross", It commemorates 14 key events on day of Christ's crucifixion. The majority concern His final walk through the streets of Jerusalem, carrying the Cross. The Stations originated in medieval Europe when wars and persecution prevented Christian pilgrims from visiting the Holy Land. European artists created works depicting scenes of Christ's journey to Calvary. The faithful installed these sculptures or paintings at intervals along a procession route, inside the parish church or outdoors. Performing the devotion meant walking the entire route, stopping to pray at each "station." Today, images of the Stations are on display in almost all Catholic churches. They serve mainly as a focus for Lenten worship services. But the Stations can also be performed privately, at any time of the year, even at home. Tuesday March 17, 2020
