Newcastle University Institute for Creative Arts Practice Newsletter View this email in your browser

Welcome Welcome to the latest edition of our newsletter. By following the links below you can read about the work of our PhD students and staff, and also the forthcoming Newcastle Poetry Festival curated by the Newcastle Centre for Literary Arts, which runs from 2nd-5th May (see https://www.newcastlepoetryfestival.co.uk/). Professors Linda Anderson and Sinead , and colleagues, have put together an absolutely outstanding programme around the theme of Crossings, and you can read about our collaboration with NCLA and TWAM for the Festival below.

Our team have also been busy on a number of initiatives. Mel Whewell and Professor Eric Cross have been leading the University's involvement in the Great Exhibition of the North which launches on 22nd June and runs until September 9th. The Great North Museum is one of three hubs and will be transformed to host the exhibition 'Which Way North' that promises to present the North, and the Museum, as you've never thought about it before. The campus will also be enlivened with various events, performances and activities throughout the exhibition period so do watch out for future announcements.

Also, amidst all the snow in February, Catriona Macdonald and I made a trip to Norway to explore potential collaborations with Fine Art and Music colleagues. Needless to say, despite feet of snow and bone-chilling temperatures across the North Sea, the only challenge was getting home! The trip went well and we hope to update on initiatives soon.

We also held an event bringing together artists and scientists working together across the University and a result of this is that we're looking to create a network to enable sharing of projects, best practice and to maximise synergies for research. If you'd like to know more about this, do get in touch. Finally, you might remember that I mentioned our funding guide in my introduction to our previous newsletter, well this will be launching in early May so keep your eyes open for announcements and do get in touch if a copy doesn't make it's way to your mailbox.

As always, thanks for your support of the Institute, and do get in touch if there's anything we can do to support your work.

Activities could include: • practitioners discussing their current projects; • themed sessions drawing together practitioners from across subject areas; • presentations of proposed funding bid ideas for feedback; • invited guests.
