Identifies the topic Title of the text/tells what the text will be about
Tells a book’s title, Title Page author, illustrator, and publisher
Tells the names of Table of chapters and what page the chapters Contents can be found
Tells what pages the Index reader can find certain topics
Tells the definitions Glossary of some of the words found in a text
Divides the text into sections and explains Heading what the sections will be about

Shows what something looks like Photograph (taken with a camera)
Shows what Illustration something looks like (drawn by an artist)
Explains what a Caption photograph or illustration is about
Tells the names of certain parts of a Labels photograph or illustration
Organizes and helps Graph compare information in a visual way
Organizes facts and numbers in a visual Table way so it is easier to read

Shows where places/ Map events are located
Explains information Diagram or how something works in a visual way
Shows what words are important or Bold Print what words can be found in the glossary
Shows that a word is Italics important
Bullet Makes lists easier to Points read and understand
Gives interesting Fact Box/ facts or extra information about a Side Bar topic
