10.2 Confirmation of proceedings of 9th Governing Council meeting:

Principal confirmed about the sending of the copies the proceedings of the 9th GC meeting to the members which the members approved the same 10.3 ( 9.3a) i) Conducting of Bridge Course in Applied Science, Mathematics and English Communication. Resolution of 9th GC Meeting: It was resolved to continue the efforts and also to envisage new methods to improve the results.

Action Taken: Bridge course could not be conducted due to COVID-19, pandemic. It will be conducted for first semester students, after the admissions, and after reopening of Polytechnic, which depends on the directive from DTE, Bengaluru, due to COVID-19 pandemic, during the academic year 2020-21, on completion of final year examinations.

Discussions /Suggestions: Prof. M.H. Dhananjaya, suggested to conduct on-line bridge course. For this Principal expressed that it can be done, after the admissions.

Resolution of 10th GC meeting: It was resolved to conduct bridge course on line after admissions, if COVID-19 situation persists and also on the directive of District administration

ii) Establishing Language Lab Resolution of 9th GC Meeting : To continue the same with regard to the language lab and try to improve results

Action Taken: Could not be carried out due to COVID-19 Pandemic.

Discussions /Suggestions: Dr. C.G. Betsurmath, Executive secretary, suggested to refrain from telling that the events could not be conducted citing COVID-19 pandemic, every time. Instead, try to give potential reason for not conducting.

For this Principal expressed that a very short period of approximately 30 working days were left, after the 9th GC meeting, for the completion of academic year. Due to this and also since students were busy in internal test and submissions, it could not be conducted.

Resolution of 10th GC meeting: To continue the optimum usage of language lab, during next academic year either off line or on-line.

10.3(9.3b) : Formation of Staff Evaluation Committee Resolution of 9th GC Meeting: To continue the staff evaluation process under the guidance of Prof A.T. Bhashyam

Action Taken: Could not be carried out due to COVID-19 Pandemic.

Discussions /Suggestions: Inspite of having taken the feedback from students, meeting could not be conducted due to lockdown. Resolution of 10th GC meeting: It was resolved to continue the staff evaluation process under the guidance of Prof A.T. Bhashyam, after the polytechnic reopens

10.3(9.3c): Placement Discussion:

Resolution of 9th GC Meeting: It is resolved to continue with the placement Activities

Action taken: Could not be carried out due to COVID-19 Pandemic Discussions /Suggestions: After thePlacement activities discussed during 9th GC meeting, no activities of placement, like campus interview, could be done due to COVID-19. Resolution of 10th GC Meeting: Tocontinue the placement acclivities.

10.3(9.3d): IMS & Skill Development Activities :

Resolution of 9th GC Meeting: It is resolved to pursue courses under CMKKY & to get approval.

Action taken: Could not be carried out due to COVID-19 Pandemic.

Discussions /Suggestions: After the activities discussed during 9th GC meeting, no activities could be done due to COVID-19. Resolution of 10th GC Meeting: To continue the activities of skill development after polytechnic reopens.

10.3(9.4) Progress of the Polytechnic 10.3(9.4.1) Additional Building and Procurement of Loan:

Resolution of 9th GC Meeting :It was resolved to expedite the process of building construction with the necessary support from JSSMVP

Action Taken: Could not be carried out due to COVID-19 Pandemic Discussions /Suggestions: Prof. M.H. Dhananjaya, questioned as to why to invest on new building, as virtual classrooms and staggered time table can be used to effectively utilize the existing building facility. For this, Dr. C. Ranganathaiah, Director, expressed that, the infrastructure needed is as per the AICTE norms, without which the Extension of approval will not be given. In addition, he explained about the ordeal of getting EOA this year, for which JSSMVP has given approval for JSS public school new building, which has been shown under polytechnic infrastructure. Only after this, the polytechnic could get EOA for the academic year 2020-21 from AICTE, New Delhi. However, he expressed that the suggestion of Prof. M.H. Dhananjaya, can be effectively implemented only if AICTE norms are modified suitably and include the option of virtual classrooms in their policy. For this the Government officers concerned should suggest AICTE, and investigate the possibility of including aforesaid modification in AICTE norms. For this the Government officials noted the suggestion.

Resolution of 10th GC Meeting: It is resolved to pursue the matter with DTE, Bangalore, regarding above suggestion

10.3(9.4.2): Procurement of Machinery / Equipment Resolution of 9th GC Meeting: It is resolved to commission the UTM procured from JSSATE , Bengaluru

Action Taken: No activities carried out due to COVID-19 pandemic Discussions /Suggestions: Dr. C.G. Betsurmath, Executive secretary, suggested to plan in advance regarding the requirement of either machinery/equipment for the next academic year, which has no bearing on COVID-19. For this, Principal expressed that at present no new machinery/equipment is needed. However, if it is required as per the new syllabus , which will come into effect during next academic year, it will be procured with prior planning

10.3(9.4.3): Poor Result & Poor Performing Students: Resolution of 9th GC Meeting: It is resolved to continue with the process of improving results

Action Taken :Could not be carried out due to COVID-19 Pandemic Discussions /Suggestions: Dr. C.G. Betsurmath, suggested to take suitable steps to improve results. Resolution of 10th GC Meeting: It was resolved to implement the suggestion made. 10.3(9.4.4): Alumni Association: Resolution of 9th GC Meeting: It is resolved to continue registering new students from time to time.

Action Taken: Could not be carried out due to COVID-19 Pandemic.

Discussions /Suggestions: Dr. C.G. Betsurmath suggested to maintain a database of alumni members with all essential details and also to strengthen the association by involving members effectively.

Resolution of 10th GC Meeting: It is resolved to continue registering new students from time to time and implement the feasible suggestions made by the members.

10.3(9.4.5): Guest Lectures and Staff Training: Resolution of 10th GC Meeting: It is resolved to conduct lectures on motivation for students.

Action Taken: Could not be carried out due to COVID-19 Pandemic.

Discussions /Suggestions: Members noted and suggested to increase the number of lectures during the next academic year. Resolution of 10th GC Meeting: It was resolved to arrange for guest lectures and staff training once the polytechnic reopens.

10.3 (9.4.6): Establishing e-library: Resolution of 10th GC Meeting: It was resolved to implement the suggestion made by members. Action Taken: Could not be carried out due to COVID-19 Pandemic. Discussions /Suggestions: Members noted Resolution of 10th GC Meeting : It was resolved to motivate students to make use of available e-library facility 10.4 ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES 10.4.1 Courses Offered: Discussions /Suggestions: Prof. M.H. Dhananjaya, suggested to start a course on Rubber technology, for which required infrastructure is available in the SJCE campus, under Dr. Banerjee Centre of Excellence, for Rubber Technology Education Training, Research Testing and Skills Development..

For this, Principal opined that, for implementing any new course, framing of syllabus, approval from DTE, Bangalore has to be taken.

Further, Dr. C. Ranganathaiah, Director, brought to the notice of Prof. M.H. Dhananjaya, that since the polytechnic is not autonomous institution, and governed by the DTE, Bangalore, new course cannot be started without the approval from AICTE and Board of Technical Examinations, Bengaluru.

Resolution of 10th GC Meeting: Members noted.

10.4.2 Admission Status: Discussions /Suggestions: Dr. C. Ranganathaiah, Director, after going through the admissions in the Annexure table, suggested not to show SNQ/Repeaters separately. Instead mention only total number of students admitted. He further asked Principal, the percentage of admission. Principal mentioned that it is 90% of the approved strength of 360. For this, Dr. C.G. Betsurmath, suggested to take suitable steps to ensure 100% admission. For this Principal expressed that the admission has improved this year compared to last year. Sri. Ravichandran.N, Joint Director (Exam) and Sri.T.Harish, Asst. Director (Technical), brought to the notice of members that the admissions in JSS Polytechnic is comparatively good with respect to other private polytechnics in the state 10.4.3 Admission Status of Reserved Candidates: Members noted (Page No. 11 to 12)

10.4.4 Result Analysis: Discussions /Suggestions: Members noted Resolution of 10th GC Meeting: The committee noted the results of the polytechnic and suggested to further improve the results (Page No.12 to 14)

10.5 Extracurricular Activities : Members Noted 10.5.1 NSS Activities: The NSS activities could not be taken up during the academic year 2020-21 due to closure of polytechnic for students because of COVID-19 pandemic. (Page No. 15). 10.5.2 NCC : The NCC activities could not be taken up during the academic year 2020-21 due to closure of polytechnic for students because of COVID-19 pandemic. (Page No. 15). 10.5.3 Alumni Association: The committee noted and asked to implement suggestions cited in the agenda 10.3(9.4.4) (Page No.16) 10.6 Staff Development Programme: 10.6.1 Staff Enrolled for Higher Education Discussions /Suggestions: Prof. M.H. Dhananjaya, enquired whether the staff who have completed M.Tech, is being sponsored by the JSSMVP. For this Principal said that all of them have done it on their own. But an affidavit is taken from to stay in the institution for three years after the completion of the Post graduation. Reacting to this Prof. M.H. Dhananjaya, said that when they are not being sponsored affidavit should not be taken for a long period of 3 years. Principal said that the same will brought to the notice of the management 10.6.2 Staff Development Programmes Attended: Members noted. (Page No.18 to 19) 10.6.3 Programmes/Workshop/Seminars Organized in the year 2020-21: No programmes organized due the restrictions of COVID-19 10.6.4 Industrial Visits Organized : Members noted (Page No.20 ) 10.7 Student Activities : Members noted (Page No. 20 to 21) 10.8 Income Generating Activities: Not done due to COVID-19 Pandemic. However, income generated during 2019-20 were noted (Page No.21)

10.9. Investment on Laboratories: The committee noted the investment made during the academic year 2019-20 ( Page No.22)

10.10 Library: Members noted the available facility 10.11 Placement Activities : The committee noted (Page No. 23) 10.12 Other Subjects 10.12.1 Resignation and Appointments: The committee noted

10.12.2 Requirement of Staff The committee noted the required and existing staff ( Page No.24 to 25)

10.12.3 Scholarships: Dr. C.G. Betsurmath, told to collect the list of scholarships and other facilities suggested by Dr.. Siddalinga Swamy, Director, e-governance, AICTE, and display the same the students notice board and also educate them, to avail the benefits. The committee noted the scholarships (Page No.25).

10.13 NBA Activities : Members noted

10.14 Activities during Lock Down Period Committee noted the activities carried out during lock down period. Dr. C. Ranganathaiah, Director, appreciated the training given to non teaching staff in computer during lock down.

Dr. C.G. Betsurmath, Executive Secretary, noted the Webinar/FDP attended by teaching staff on- line. He also wanted to know the benefits derived from them.

10.15 Any Other Subjects with the permission of the chair: Dr. C.G. Betsurmath, asked Sri. Ravichandran.N, Joint Director (Exam) and Sri.T.Harish, Asst. Director (Technical), if they have anything to express.

For this both of them said that the COVID-19 has caused much misery to the education field, especially for students. Though the decision of passing the students of lower semester is not appreciated, they had no other alternative. Prof. M.H. Dhananjaya, enquired them about the effect of new education system on technical education.

For this they expressed that it has to be dealt in detail and it is too early to draw conclusions at this juncture.

Dr. C. Ranganathaiah, Director, expressed about the shortfalls and lacunas in the presentation of the GC meeting. He also suggested to Principal to learn the skill of presentation and new technology in the good earnest to overcome the short falls in the on line presentation which may be largely due to technical snags and less know how about the presentation platform being used. For this Principal readily agreed. Prof. A.T.Bhashyam, gave following suggestions. 1) To devise new methods to deliver technical subjects online. 2) To reduce infrastructure requirement by authorities concerned to 50% for blended learning. 3) To increase the competence and capability of teachers for online teaching.

AGENDA 10.5: EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

ACTIVITIES DETAILS 10.5.1 NSS  NSS Unit was established in the year 2001-2002

 Students are actively participating in regular activities held in the polytechnic campus on every Saturday.  Enrolment of 100 students to our NSS Unit was held on 25th July 2019  On 15th August 2019 Independence day was celebrated.  NSS Activity for the year 2019-20-Inaugural program was conducted on 05.09.2019 at Seminar Hall  On 5th September – “Sadbhavana” pledge was administrated by Smt. Pavithra, Lecturer, Dept. of E& C for both staff and students.  On 7th September 2019 “ Swachha Pakwada” Program was conducted (Jala Samrakshana Yojana)  On 5th September 2019 Engineers day was celebrated  On 2nd October 2019 Gandi Jayanthi was celebrated.

10.5.2 NCC  NCC Cadets and NCC officer Lt.Harsha Kumar S participated in CATC/TSC-II from June 17th to 27th 2019 at KSOU,Mysuru/Elwala.  NCC Cadet Harsha A.S, participated in Basic Leadership Camp(BLC) from June 4th to 14th 2019 at Mysuru.  NCC cadets selections for the year 2019-20 was conducted on 27th July 2019 at Polytechnic premises.  NCC cadets, officer & P.I. Staff organized Independence Day parade of the year 2019 at JSS Polytechnic.  NCC cadet Madhu attended Independence Day Drill Parade at Bannimantap, Mysuru & won first prize.  NCC cadets of JSS Polytechnic participated Dasara 2019 Torch Light Drill Parade at Bannimantap.  NCC cadets Akash, Nishanth participated IN ATC from Oct. 11th to Oct. 21st at PCTC, Bengaluru.  NCC cadets Arjun, Sharvin Moras, Karthikeyan participated IN Shivaji Trekking Camp from Nov. 21st to Dec. 6th at Kolhapur, Maharastra.  NCC Cadet SUO Ajay Singh participated IN AITC(Narmada Camp) from Dec. 4th to Dec.13th at Rajpipli, Gujarath.  NCC cadets and officer participated in Annual Firing Camp on 10th Jan.2020 at Nagawala firing range, Mysuru.

10.5.3 Alumni  As per auditors’ suggestion, a separate account was opened in the Association name of JSS Polytechnic Alumni Association and Rs. 1,59,799 credited to the same.  654 students have been registered during last three years.

(2017-18, 2018-19, 2019-20)

 Alumni meet was held in the 1st week of February 2020 and the

response was good compare to previous years.  There were good suggestions made by the Alumni  Some of the Alumni members have taken the responsibility of making sure that they attend next Alumni meet during April/May 2020 in large numbers.

 60KW Capacity Roop Top Solar Power Generation System(SRTP): The solar power generation system installed in the college building can generate about 9000kw per month @ the rate of 250 to 300kw per day. After consumption of about 3000kw by the college the excess power of about 6000kw can be supplied to the power grid which will generate about Rs. 50,000/- income to the management, after commissioning.

AGENDA 10.14: Activities during lockdown period. The lockdown started from 24th March 2020. The lockdown has not stopped JSS Polytechnic from its academic progression. We started adopting transition to online teaching from 28th March, 2020 through virtual platforms like Whatsapp, Google classroom, Zoom and Webex. Though students and staff took some time to adapt to the new virtual technology, they became well versed with the new methodology in a short span of time.
