Job Description Fellowship Coordinator “Supporting Arab Women at the Table” (SAWT)

Overall Purpose

The Arab Reform Initiative (ARI) and the American University of Beirut’s Center for Inclusive Business and Leadership for Women (CIBL-W) are seeking a full-time Fellowship Coordinator to work on the SAWT project. He/she will be actively involved in coordinating a) research and capacity building serving the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda in Libya, , Iraq, , and Palestine; b) a regional fellowship program for women leaders and activists from the countries of intervention; c) other administrative activities - under the support and supervision of the CIBL-W Lead Principal Investigator and Senior Program Manager and in close consultation with the ARI Project Director.

The Fellowship Coordinator will be co-leading on content development of trainings and all outreach to fellows related to two project components as follows:

▪ Work Package 1 / Training of researchers and research: He/she will be coordinating training of researchers that aims at building the conceptual and analytical framework for knowledge production. This will ensure that research for the project produces the type of intersectional feminist analysis and creates country case study research that is comparable.

▪ Work Package 2 / Regional fellowship program and summer school: He/ she will be leading on all administrative and logistical aspects of the regional fellowship program and summer school, including supporting the design and delivery of the training modules. The fellowship program is conceived as a yearly activity within the duration of 36 months, thus occurring three times by the end of the project.

This also entails facilitating the selection process to ensure securing a pool of women activists and advocates who are engaged in impacting communities through work within/or across the public, private, nonprofit sectors and social movements working towards gender equality in countries of intervention.

Moreover, he/she will be supporting in the design and delivery of the summer school. The latter will commence with a series of online training workshops prior to face to face delivery and one follow-up activity. The key objective of the summer school is to create a community of peer- and expert-mentors, identifying future learning opportunities of common interest, and inviting each other to different countries to learn and support the

cohort of Fellows. The Fellowship Coordinator will be responsible for facilitating an Alumni and co-designing communication channels for network sustainability.

About the SAWT Project

The SAWT project is funded by the European Commission (EC) with the Arab Reform Initiative (ARI) as the lead partner and implemented through a consortium of partners consisting of the Center for Inclusive Business and Leadership for Women (CIBLW) in with a regional scope, Together We Build It in Libya, the Sana’a Center for Strategic Studies in Yemen, Citizenship League for Syria, the Culture and Free Thought Association in Palestine, and the Iraqi Al-Amal Association in Iraq.

It aims at quantitatively and qualitatively increasing women’s meaningful inclusion in peace processes in the MENA region. It will improve their ability to influence outcomes and establish post-conflict gender-egalitarian frameworks. It will focus on the emergence of a new generation of women activists with enhanced capacity, skills and confidence. It will create new venues and mechanisms for cross-regional, intergenerational, cross-sectorial exchange and coalition-building for shared learning and collective action planning. It will also generate key forum for South-to-North exchanges that provide unique opportunities for knowledge production and sharing, advocacy and policy influencing.

Scope of Work

The Fellowship Coordinator will have the following responsibilities:

Research coordination

▪ Conducting regular desktop research and literature reviews on women’s political participation in MENA to inform the course of the project and keep abreast of the WPS agenda in the region. ▪ Providing analytical content to the research papers that will emerge from the project

Fellowship program and summer school coordination

▪ Assisting in the design and delivery of both the fellowship program and summer school modules – through both online and face-to-face modalities. ▪ Facilitating the selection package for the women activists and advocates who will be engaged in this capacity building i.e. preparing the call for applications and organising meetings to support proper selection. ▪ Coordinating with the communications team to ensure the packaging of program outreach material (proofreading and editing in English and ).

▪ Establishing a secretariat and coordination body to create and maintain an alumni network. ▪ Liaising with women activists and advocates to enable regular updates on the challenges they are facing and exploring local project opportunities. ▪ Leading on all administrative and logistical tasks to ensure smooth delivery of this capacity building i.e. organizing meetings, visas and travel arrangements, hotel bookings and per-diems in close coordination with all project consortium partners. ▪ Supporting the monitoring and evaluation and learning milestones of both the fellowship and summer school programs.

Qualifications

The Fellowship Coordinator shall be committed to women’s rights and to supporting knowledge production/research, capacity building and voices/networks of women activists within MENA with the following background and experience:

▪ A master’s degree in gender studies, business, or any other relevant fields. Candidates with a bachelor’s degree with relevant research experience will also be considered. ▪ 1 to 3 years of work experience. ▪ Excellent command of English and Arabic is a must - with prior research experience in Arabic a plus. ▪ A proven track record in research on relevant topics is preferred ▪ Excellent administrative and organizational skills ▪ Ability to work pro-actively, independently and efficiently

Contract Conditions

This is a full-time contract for a maximum period of 36 months with an early July 2021 expected start date.
