Pennine Bridleway Ride – Settle to Tuesday 4th – Friday 7th October 2011

The Pennine Bridleway

The Pennine Bridleway is ’s latest National Trail and the first ever purpose built bridleway in the UK. The completion of the final link between Street at Kirkby Stephen and Settle in the includes some of the most dramatic scenery with wide open fells and big skies dominating the landscape. The majority of the route includes remote sections of open fell with breath taking panoramic views over the Cumbrian fells and Yorkshire dales. Developed by Natural England the Pennine Bridleway incorporates ancient packhorse routes and as well as new sections of bridleway. Stonetrail is situated at Street Farm just yards from the end of the Bridleway making our location a perfect choice for this ride.

Pace, Ability & Style

This trail ride is best described as an ideal pleasure ride for experienced and confident adult riders. Our aim is to provide you with a well organised, safe and enjoyable holiday which offers you a chance to experience what is a spectacular route through some of the best scenery in the north of England.

The Pennine Bridleway is a mix of grassy tracks and laid paths over an undulating landscape. The pace is mostly walk and trot with opportunities for good canters along the way. It is not a race, more of an adventure that we like to take our time over. We do ask for a minimum standard but do not expect you to be an expert and . providing you can ride for 6 hours a day, canter confidently in open spaces you will have a great time. However, whilst we expect you to be able to canter you are under no obligation to do so.

The ride is led either by Alison Roper or an equally experienced mature ride leader. We keep the ride small, usually no more than 7 customers and we have a back up vehicle within easy reach which supports the ride along the way. We particularly welcome solo bookings who wish to join a group ride. Everyone stays together in the same B&B and Inn meeting for dinner each evening. We encourage everyone to join in the daily routines of taking care of the horses and provide help for those with less experience in this area.

What to Wear / Bring

All riders should wear proper riding footwear (short or long boots) with Jodhpur style trousers and riding gloves. We prefer that you provide your own riding hat which should meet current standards but can provide one if required. Please bring a waterproof coat and trousers which are light enough to roll up and carry in a saddle bag or rucsac. Layers of clothing works best allowing you to add or take off during the ride if necessary. Please pack your overnight items in one large bag rather than several bags and label it clearly with your name. During the ride small items can be packed in the saddle bags and you are welcome to use a ruc sac or bum bag if you prefer.

We will endeavor to give you as much notice as possible in these circumstances.

All bookings are accepted on the understanding each rider is capable of riding at all speeds on open fell for up to 6 hours per day. The normal duration of the ride is 6 hours (10 – 4pm). We encourage riders to help one another during the ride. Riders who agree to take part in a group ride with riders they do not know should do so on the understanding that confidence levels can change at short notice and Stonetrail will always adjust the pace of the ride to suit the lowest ability rider.

Whilst we enjoy a sense of fun, reckless behavior which poses a risk to the safety of yourself, horse or others would result in you being asked to dismount and leave the ride (please note this has never happened!)

Stonetrail is unable to accept responsibility for any liabilities arising due to the actions of the owners / proprietors of accommodation providers used on route.
