If you have any questions or concerns – please contact Diane Grabowski at the Senior Center Mon- days – Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at 734-258-3066 What’s New ABC Among the shows returning to ABC next season are American Idol, , America's Funniest Home Videos, The Bachelor, The Bache- lorette, black-ish, The Connors, Dancing With the Stars, For Life, The Gold- bergs, The Good Doctor, Grey's Anatomy, A Million Little Things, mixed-ish, The Rook- ie, Shark Tank, Station 19, 20/20, and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.

ABC has also announced two straight-to-series orders: David E. Kelley's Big Sky, which will Kylie Bunbury and Katheryn Winnick as a detective and ex-cop, respectively, who team up to try and find two girls kidnapped by a truck driver; and Call Your Mother, a new comedy series (previously titled My Village) that features Kyra Sedgwick as an empty- nester mother who decides to reinsert herself into her adult children's lives. The two series join the previously announced revival of Supermarket Sweep, hosted by Leslie Jones. All three are expected to debut this fall.

However, the network has decided to cancel its freshman series The Baker and the Beau- ty and Emergence, along with second-year comedies Single Parents, Schooled, and Bless This Mess. And after initially renewing Stumptown for Season 2, ABC decided to cancel the show due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

CBS If you love horror dramas, military procedurals, or Chuck Lorre comedies, CBS is the place for you in the 2020- 2021 television season. At the beginning of May, CBS renewed 23 shows on its lineup, including all three shows in the NCIS franchise. Mean- while, Lorre comedies Mom and Young Sheldon were guaranteed a slot on next year's cal- endar, and so was Evil, the exciting supernatural drama fromThe Good Wife creators Michelle and Robert King.

Those shows will be joined by new series Clarice, a sequel to Silence of Lambsstarring Rebecca Breeds as the titular homicide detective; a reboot of The Equaliz- er that stars Queen Latifah; and another Lorre comedy, B Positive, starring Thomas Mid- dleditch and Annaleigh Ashford.

Of course, a new TV season also mean saying goodbye to some shows. CBS decided not to continue the mystery on God Friended Me after two seasons, and the network also can- celed Man with a Plan and freshman comedies Broke and Carol's Second Act. Hawaii Five- 0 also concluded its 10-season run in April. And due to the coronavirus pandemic affecting production, Season 41 of Survivor has been indefinitely shelved. NBC NBC's fall 2020-2021 lineup is coming together, and despite a cha- otic year of shutdowns and production delays, the slate is still full of familiar favorites and a few promising newcomers, too. Among the returning series are , New Amsterdam, Manifest, The Blacklist, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist. Also returning are the One Chicago shows and Law & Or- der: SVU, each of which got three-season pickups earlier this year. However, NBC will also say goodbye to several series, including freshman comedies Indebted and Sunnyside, as well as the legal drama Bluff City Law.

As for new shows, get excited for Law & Order: Organized Crime, an SVU spin-off star- ring Christopher Meloni as Elliot Stabler, that will debut in 2021. The network has also picked up some exciting new comedies, includingYoung Rock, based on the childhood of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson; the new Ted Danson-led comedy Mr. Mayor, co-created by Tina Fey; and a new remotely produced scripted comedy from Blindspot creator Martin Gero and Brendan Gall called Connecting, which is set in the age of the coronavirus pandemic. Plus, the network will have 's The Kenan Show, which was first announced last year, and the return

The CW, like all television networks, is experiencing a very different fall premiere season this year. Due to the coronavirus pandemic and subsequent production shutdowns, many of the net- work's shows will not be ready to premiere in October as usual. In May, The CW announced its schedule for the 2020-2021 season and revealed that its new primetime schedule will officially launch in January 2021, with the fall 2020 roster being filled with original and acquired series, as well as the continuation of Supernatural's final season, which was put on pause amid the coronavirus pandemic. The CW's lineup was largely known already, of course, thanks to early renewals and series or- ders. In January, The CW renewed Batwoman andNancy Drew for their second seasons and gave third season orders toAll American, Charmed, In the Dark, Legacies, andRoswell, New Mexico. The CW also renewed Black Lightningfor Season 4, Riverdale for Season 5, gave the green light to sixth seasons of DC's Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl, and a seventh season order for The Flash.

The entertainment world has been greatly affected by the coronavirus pandem- ic, but Fox is still pressing ahead with new plans for the future. In May, Fox an- nounced its fall 2020 schedule, we've compiled everything you need to know about the new lineup, including which shows have been renewed, those shows that have been canceled, and what new series are headed your way. Returning shows include The Masked Singer 9 1 1 ,, Last Man Standing, , Prodigal Son, , Bless the Harts, Duncanville, and Bob's Burgers. New drama se- ries NeXt and Filthy Rich, which were originally slated for midseason debuts, have been pushed to fall. Other new Fox shows you should keep an eye on include Call Me Kat, a comedy series from 's and , and new animated series and Housebroken. (Two shows that won't be returning to the schedule are Deputy and Outmatched, both of which were canceled after one season.) 2020.. WE GIVE THANKS

IT STARTED OUT JUST LIKE ANY OTHER ‘NEW’ YEAR IN SOUTHGATE. WE MAKE OUR ‘RESOLUTIONS’ AND PROMISED THAT THIS YEAR WOULD BE THE YEAR WE KEPT THEM. WE TAKE DOWN THE INSIDE AND OUTSIDE DECORATIONS AND RETURNED THEM TO THEIR SUMMER STORAGE. ‘THANK YOU’ CARDS ARE WRITTEN FOR THE WONDERFUL GIFTS WE RECEIVED AND FOR THE HOLIDAY LUNCHEONS WE WERE TREATED TO. AND NOW IT’S TIME TO UNDRESS THE TREE(S) AND AS WE PACK AWAY THE WON- DERFUL COLLECTION OF ORNAMENTS WE HAVE LOVED ALL THESE YEARS, THE HOUSE BEGINS TO LOOK SO NEAT AND BACK TO IT’S ‘NORMAL’.

WE GET A CUP OF COFFEE AND SLIP INTO THE COMFY CHAIR, PULL A COZY THROW OVER OUR LEGS AND THOUGHTS COME TUMBLING INTO OUR RELAXED PSYCHE AS WE START TO PLAN OUR UP-COMING YEAR. SOON WE DRIFT OFF FOR A SHORT NAP TAKING THOSE THOUGHTS WITH US. DEEP IN A RESTFUL SLEEP, THE NEW YEAR UN- FOLDS IN A SHADDOWY SCENE….JANUARY ARRIVES AS IT ALWAYS DOES WITH ITS’ BLUSTERY WEATHER. FEBRUARY WE WILL ATTEND THE SENIOR VALENTINE PARTY AND THEN ALONG COMES MARCH AND THE ST. PATRICK’S PARTY. APRIL AND MAY AR- RIVE AND WE WILL BE SITTING ON THE PATIO AND THE SUN IS WARMING US AND MOTHER EARTH IS URGING THOSE LITTLE GREEN THINGIES, OH YES! WEEDS TO POP UP. BEFORE YOU KNOW IT WE’RE OUT AT ‘BLOCK’S’ PICKING OUT OUR GERANIUMS AND OTHER ANNUALS.

AH! SO SWEET, WHAT’S THAT?? THE PHONE….EVERY TIME I TAKE A NAP SOMEONE CALLS. AH!, YES I’M AWAKE! WHAT? THE NEWS SAYS THERE’S A TERRIBLE VIRUS THAT SEEKS OUT OLDER PEOPLE LIKE US. WE’RE TOLD TO ‘QUARANTEEN’ IN OUR HOMES. WHAT DO YOU MEAN ‘PANDEMIC’, I HAVE PARTIES, AND SHOWERS AND WED- DINGS TO ATTEND. I’M NOT STAYING IN MY HOUSE. ALAS!

THINGS WE THOUGHT WERE MANAGEABLE TAKE A BACK SEAT TO WHAT IS NOW A SERIOUS THREAT TO EVERY ONE AND ESPECIALLY WE ‘SENIORS.’ WE’VE GOT TO GET OUT IN OUR GARDENS PLANTING GERANIUMS. WHAT! THE ‘NURSERIES’ COULD- N’T OPEN. WE GET CALLS FROM OUR CHILDREN TELLING US NOT TO GO SHOPPING AND THAT THEY WILL BRING OUR FOOD TO THE DOOR FOR US, BUT THEY WILL NOT COME INTO THE HOUSE LEST THEY BRING US THE COVID-19. WE SETTLE IN TO A MUNDANE SPRING AND WHEN MAY TURNS IN TO GLORIOUS JUNE, WE BUST OUTSIDE AND SIT ON THE PATIO, DRINKING IN EVERY BIT OF SUNSHINE WE CAN ABSORB. WE FEEL BETTER IN THE FRESH AIR AND LIFE BEGINS TO PERHAPS LET US GET ON WITH THOSE PLANS WE DREMPT OF BACK IN JANUARY . BUT NOT QUITE YET… continue on next page BY SUMMER’S END WE HAVE VENTURED OUT TO DO OUR OWN GROCERY SHOPPING AND EAT AT OUR FAVORITE RESTAURANT ALWAYS WEARING OUR ‘MASKS’. WAIT A MINUTE WE THINK, WHAT ABOUT “THANKSGIVNG AND CHRISTMAS?” THE FAMILY AND FRIENDS THAT ALWAYS GET TOGETHER?? WE CAN’T DO THAT THIS YEAR…WHAT IF SOMEONE HAS THE C-19? WHAT IF WE GET IT? WE HAVE HEARD TALES OF HOSPITALIZATIONS THAT ENDED BADLY. WE’RE SCARED BUT…

WE’VE GOT THIS

BECAUSE WE ARE PART OF THE ‘GREATEST GENERATION’ WE MUSTER OUR BEST THOUGHTS AND START MAKING PLANS. WE CAN’T GO TO A RESTAURANT, TOO MANY OF US, WE CAN’T ALL GO TO OUR NORMAL FAMILY HOMES TO EAT, WHAT WILL WE PREPARE, HOW WILL WE GET IT DISTRIBUTED TO EVERYBODY?? EVERY FAMILY HAS A COUPLE ‘TECH’ SAVVY KIDS. SO THE PLAN BEGINS. EACH FAMILY HAS DINNER AT THEIR HOME WITH THOSE THEY HAVE SELF QUARANTEENED WITH AND EVERY FAM- ILY GROUP SETS UP THAT NEW CONTRAPTION CALLED: ‘ZOOM’

TURN THAT ON AND SET IT SO THE DINING TABLE IS IN FULL VIEW, THE OLDEST FAMILY MEMBER ALWAYS SAYS THE ‘PRAYER’ AND A MULTITUDE OF VOICES CHIME IN TOGETHER. “GOD IS GREAT, GOD IS GOOD, LET US THANK HIM FOR OUR FOOD, BY HIS HAND WE ALL ARE FED, GIVE US LORD OUR DAILY BREAD. AMEN! NOW PASS THE TURKEY, GRAVEY, STUFFING, SLIDERS (WHOA, I’M HUNGRY) MASHED POTATOES, SWEET POTATOES, GREEN BEAN CASSEROLE, CRANBERRY RELISH, WARM BUNS.AND ON AND ON. EVERYBODY EATING AND TALKING AT ONCE AND EVERY- BODY LISTENING IN TO THE OTHER FAMILY HOMES. ‘DID YOU HEAR WHAT SHE SAID?? OK! WHO WANTS PUMPKIN PIE? PECAN PIE? HEAVY ON THE REAL WHIPPED CREAM?? NICE CUP OF COFFEE OR TEA? OH, WE’RE SO STUFFED, LET’S JUST SIT IN THE LIVING ROOM FOR AWHILE AND VISIT. AS WE CHAT ABOUT OUR DAY WE LOOK AROUND AND I GIVE YOU ODDS MOST OF THE MEN IN THE GROUPS ARE OFF AND NAPPING. THE WOMEN START TO PICK UP THE DISHES, THE GRAND CHILDREN (IN THEIR 2O’S & 30’S) WASH DISHES AND EVERYBODY CHATS. WE ALL AGREE

YOU KNOW THIS HAS TURNED OUT TO BE A NICE THANKSGIVING, WE ALL GOT TO SEE EACH OTHER, WE ALL HAD WONDERFUL FOOD. THE ‘ZOOM’ THING WORKED PRETTY WELL. IT WASN’T LIKE IT USED TO BE BUT WE DID SOMETHING DIFFERENT THIS YEAR. YEAH! OH! DID I FORGET TO TELL YOU, EACH HOME MUST BRING LEFT OVERS TO ‘MIMI’S’ THE NEXT DAY SINCE SHE DIDN’T COOK A TURKEY …HEAVY ON THE GRAVY PLEASE. THANK YOU. WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO ABOUT CHRISTMAS PRESENTS???? OH, WE’LL THINK OF SOMETHING. WE ALWAYS DO.
