EVERYONE is invited to attend any of the PTAC Camp Strategic Vision Input Sessions being held in each PTAC community!

These sessions are being held as part of the National BSA camp accreditation program. Each PTAC camp is accredited by the National BSA. Therefore we are required to develop and implement a strategic plan for our PTAC camps. This requirement is especially important to our Council as the strategic plan will shape the direction and work of our various committees across the Council, and the work they will do to support and grow our camps, properties, and program offerings.

What is a Camp Strategic Vision Session?

The sessions will present highlights of the 2016 camping program and Council camp operations and solicit input for the PTAC strategic plan. The PTAC Outdoor Adventure Team will present 2016 camping season statistics and provide context to them. The camp operating performance will be explained to highlight strengths and area where improvements in financial and participation performance have been identified. The second portion will be a facilitated structured collection of thoughts from attendees in several areas of interest regarding the camps and plans. This portion of the session is the most important. It is the time for sharing successes and engaging with others who want to build a strong camping program for youth today and in the future. This is NOT a session to get reports and status, it is a time to learn and help build a vision for the future.

Why attend?

By attending you can give input to the strategic plan for the PTAC camps. Participants will be guided by a facilitator from the camping strategic planning committee, and those in attendance will be asked to respond and give their thoughts to various areas of strategic interest. Ideas will gathered on areas such as program, staffing, facilities, food, equipment, marketing, participation/access, engagement, and much more! There will be no remote access since these sessions are best when attending in person. Every opinion counts and every experience level with camps is welcome, no need to be an expert!

What will follow the Sessions?

After the last session on December 15 there will be an online forum to collect data. The data collection tool will be posted on the PTAC website. This will allow even those who missed an in person session to provide input. After this process of data collection is complete the PTAC camp strategic planning committee will bring together and evaluate all the data. This will be the basis for a strategic plan which will become the guide forward in our Council, Community and District efforts pertaining to camps.

Questions on these sessions may be directed to PTAC.Camping@.org

This is a summary of the fall message provided by PTAC outing going President, Craig Burkhardt, regarding PTAC camps. The full message can be found online.

Camp Lakota (Woodstock, IL), previously operated by the NW Suburban Council prior to formation of the PTAC, will operate during 2017 with expectation for future disposal. Adventure Camp (Roselle, IL), a joint venture established by the former Des Plaines Council with the Three Fires Council, will get additional attention as a result of disappointing attendance in 2016 and the complex ownership arrangement. Mach-Kin-O-Siew and Shin- Go-Beek in northern Wisconsin, previously operated by the Des Plaines Council prior to the formation of the PTAC, are to be sold based on recommendation of the Council Property Committee and resolution of the Council Operating Board if approved by the BSA Central Region. Details of these actions and the full message are contained in Craig’s PTAC President’s fall letter. More 2017 Summer Camp Leadership
