Harford County Voters’ Guide 2018 Primary Election League of Women Voters of Harford County About this Voters' Guide This Voters' Guide is published by the League of Women Voters of Harford County. The League has a long tradition of publishing the verbatim responses of candidates to questions important to voters. The League offers this Voters' Guide to assist citizens in their decision making process as they prepare for participation in the general election. The League of Women Voters does not support or oppose any candidate or political party. All candidates were asked to respond to a nonpartisan questionnaire. Candidates running for a particular office were asked identical questions. Responses from candidates who will appear on the Primary Election ballot are printed exactly as submitted to the LWV. We did not edit for content, spelling, or grammar. All responses were limited to 400 characters and any additional material was cut off at that point. If a candidate did not respond by April 13 deadline, "No response received by deadline" is printed. Only voters registered with the Republican or Democratic parties may vote for candidates for most offices, though all voters may vote for Board of Education and some municipal offices. Unaffiliated candidates and candidates from the Green and Libertarian parties are not included in this Voters’ Guide as they will not appear on the primary election ballot but will be in the Guide published for the general election. Additional information on the candidates is available at www.VOTE411.org, which has any updates received after the April 13 deadline. Candidate websites provide additional biographical and policy information.

Governor Governor Secretary FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: July 8, 2021 Eric Solomon DJS Communications Director (O) 410-230-3164 (C) 443-492-9781 Governor Hogan Names Five Appointees to the Juvenile Services Education Board Board members will oversee and guide implementation of education policy in all DJS facilities Baltimore, MD – Governor Larry Hogan has named five appointees to serve on the newly-created Juvenile Services Education Board within the Department of Juvenile Services (DJS). Each appointee brings years of experience and commitment to improve the education and lives of young people in Maryland. The five appointees are: Dr. Peter Leone, Dr. Catherine Gammage, Grace Reusing, Dr. Bernard Sadusky and Dr. Tracey L. Durant. During the 2021 session, the Maryland General Assembly passed and Governor Hogan signed into law Senate Bill 497, which transfers the responsibility of implementing educational programming from the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) to the Juvenile Services Education Board. The legislation was sponsored by Senator Delores G. Kelley and supported by Delegate Eric G. Luedtke and the Secretary of DJS, Sam Abed. Senate Bill 497 establishes the Juvenile Services Education Board (Board) within DJS to oversee and provide for educational services to all youth placed in a DJS-operated detention and residential facility. In addition to the five experts appointed to the Board by Governor Hogan, the Board will include representatives from DJS, MSDE, Higher Education, the Attorney General's Office, a representative of the Public Schools Superintendents’ Association, and a Juvenile Services Educator member.
