TUESDAY, OCTOBER Life!16, 2012 | | MARSHALLPARTHENON.COM Housing and Residence* Life announces employment* opportunities for students By EVAN FOWLER THE PARTHENON The Department of Housing and Resi- dence life is promoting that being a resident adviser is “all that and a bag of chips” as the department announces resi- dent adviser selections for the spring 2013 semester. HRL offers students employment and ex- perience opportunities with resident adviser selections in October and interviews in early November. “We want every type of person to ap- ply,” Tiffany Hughes, resident director of Twin Towers East, said. “We don’t want ‘cookie-cutter’ resident advisers. Not every applicant can be the same because not every resident is the same.” Hughes said she thinks being unique is an important quality she will be looking for in the interview process. She also said there is not a specific standard in regards to what type of people they are looking for in regards to personality and hopes they will have a large turnout of applicants for the interviews. Tracey Eggleston, assistant director for the De- partment of Housing and Residence Life, said she hopes the interview process will help seek out people who want to be leaders on campus as well as individuals who want to grow and learn from the experience. She said that there are general requirements students must meet in order to be eligible for hire as a resident adviser, such as an undergraduate cumulative GPA of 2.3 or graduate cumulative GPA of 3.0. “We want people who aren’t afraid to inter- act with others and are excited about life in general,” Eggleston said. “We also want people who are self-motivated and want to be leaders in their community.” Eggleston said being a resident adviser could bump in the job pool that they may need be- also provide students with a lot of transferrable cause a lot of people know what a resident skills and assets which will follow them into any adviser is.” Compensation for the position includes a “I think that people don’t realize how much of housing fee waiver, a monthly stipend and a meal ajob family field theyres life intend actually to pursue is,” Eggleston after graduation. said. “You - gain a lot of support from the staff who really do cations, requirements and the full compensation become your brothers and sisters.” forplan the package position in addition can be foundto other online benefits. under Appli the Eggleston said all the professional staff is Housing and Residence Life section of Marshall’s also available to work with advisers one on website.
