Have you ever said to yourself, I just want to be a kid for a day, play outside with friends and have no worries except to be home when I was told, go on bike rides around the neighborhood, go to the park and have a picnic, go to Vacation Bible School and meet new friends? And then when night time comes, you are tucked into bed for a good night’s sleep with not a worry in the world. It is just a normal kid day!!! That Sunday's Parking lot service was just what we needed. We had all been separated by miles for so long but with the little distance between everyone on that July 12th morning, it felt as though we were worshipping almost face to face. There was energy and excitement in the air! Even though we were still social distancing, we were able to see happy faces and feel the energy and enthusiasm that those happy faces brought. MORE GOOD NEWS! And now the good news is that the Session has approved two more parking lot worship services in August on the first and third Sundays of the month of August with each of the services beginning at 9:30 am. Mark your calendars now and be looking for more information soon about this exciting announcement. God is good and we give Him all the praise and glory!! Music retrieves memories! Do you remember the fun of going to Vacation Bible School, meeting new friends, learning new songs and some of the songs we could even dance to? Those days of being a kid were so much fun. Part of today's music focuses on the fun we had singing in VBS and just being a kid!!!! If you remember any of the actions that you learned with these VBS songs, get up and dance! Nobody's looking. Retrieve your childhood memories and have FUN. Just be a kid again for a day! Here are several of the favorite songs from the VBS kids from Southern Heights Vacation Bible School. This Little Light of Mine https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ty9bZXN4uWA If You’re Happy and You Know It https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71hqRT9U0wg The B I B L E https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0gO7ml-vkBY Give Me Oil In My Lamp https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8FkKSUf7Yw Deep and Wide https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CzAW_sF1Jbs Jesus Loves the Little Children of the World https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UglxXH-_0o0 Do you recognize the names Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn? These two names may not be familiar to you but for over 20 years this country duo known as Brooks and Dunn recorded hit after hit before both men decided to embark on solo careers. Before music though, one of Ronnie Dunn’s career goals was to become a minister. He did serve as a youth minister at a Church in Texas. The song Believe recorded by Brooks and Dunn is a song about a man coming to terms with his own faith after the loss of his loved ones. This acoustic ballad is the childhood encounter with "Old Man Wrigley". Question, have you ever been a little afraid to talk to someone that looked a bit different than you or sounded different than you? In this song/video Believe the mother kept asking her little boy to go over and visit "Old Man Wrigley" as he sat on his porch every day rocking back and forth in his swing. Finally the little boy got up enough courage to go over and speak to "Old Man Wrigley" and later the little boy and "Old Man Wrigley" looked forward to talking daily with each other on Old Man Wrigley's porch and swinging together. The sweet and very kind "Old Man Wrigley" would talk to the little boy about his faith in God. "Old Man Wrigley" reveals that he lost his son and wife but maintains that through his faith in God, he will see them again in Heaven Believe (sung by Brooks and Dunn) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5z-jjWyAJQ A judgemental critical heart is a sin. The Bible says this about being judgemental. The Bible warns judgmental people that they will be judged by the same measure with which they judge others (Matthew 7:2). Deuteronomy 1:17 suggests that judgment belongs only to God, not to humans. Rather than being judgmental, the Bible instructs people to have compassion and empathy for others (Ephesians 4:32). Like "Old Man Wrigley" and the little boy, once they got to know each other on the outside and on the inside, black and white, they learned to have compassion, empathy and a deep love for each other. I Saw the Light https://www.youtube.com/watch? v=DQ812oceXQo&list=RDDQ812oceXQo&start_radio=1&t=92 Through these uncertain times, God is good and won’t leave us or forsake us. Please pray with me. Christ's love has gathered us into one. Let us rejoice and be pleased in Him. Let us fear, and let us love the living God. And may we love each other with a sincere heart. As we are gathered into one body, Beware, lest we be divided in mind. Let evil impulses stop, let controversy cease, And may Christ our God be in our midst. And may we with the saints also, See Thy face in glory, O Christ our God: The joy that is immense and good, Unto the ages through infinite ages. Amen!!! BLESS LNK: 34 Churches in Lincoln, Nebraska come together to offer a song of blessing to our city. https://youtu.be/zvQ-AHG2mfo In closing let’s end this week just as we began ……being a kid for a day, remembering Jesus loves everyone, no matter the age, race, religious affiliation or what city they live in. Jesus Loves Me https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXIqQp2CDVE Stay safe, be well, love one another and until next week PEACE. Anita Elliott Music Director.

Issue 128 JANUARY 11TH, 2021 Things change with time, as my very close friend likes to say. Here’s my New Year’s wish: that things change for the better in 2021. A new year brings new possibilities. We’re saddened by the loss of Gerry Marsden (78) of British Invasion legends Gerry and the Pacemakers. Their first single, “How Do You Do It,” hit number one on the British charts in 1963 – before the Beatles ever accomplished that feat – and they went on to have other smash records like “Don’t Let the Sun Catch You Crying,” You’ll Never Walk Alone,” “I Like It” and “Ferry Cross the Mersey.” These songs are woven not just into the fabric of the 1960s, but our lives. In this issue: Anne E. Johnson covers the career of John Legend and rediscovers 17th century composer Marc-Antoine Charpentier. Larry Schenbeck gets soul and takes on “what if?” Ken Sander goes Stateside with The Stranglers. J.I. Agnew locks in his lockdown music system. Tom Gibbs looks at new releases from Kraftwerk, Julia Stone and Max Richter. Adrian Wu continues his series on testing in audio. John Seetoo mines a mind-boggling mic collection. Jay Jay French remembers Mountain’s Leslie West. Dan Schwartz contemplates his streaming royalties. Steven Bryan Bieler ponders the new year. Ray Chelstowski notes that January’s a slow month for concerts – with a few monumental exceptions. Stuart Marvin examines how musicians and their audiences are adapting to the pandemic. I reminisce about hanging out with Les Paul. We round out the issue with single-minded listening, the world’s coolest multi-room audio system, mixed media, and a girl on a mission.
