2018 ANNUAL REPORT

Message from Ed Caldwell, Scout Executive/CEO

t was 76 years ago that James E. West, our first I Chief Scout Executive, stepped down from his post at the Boy Scouts of America after 32 years of

faithful service. He originally had agreed to serve 2018 OFFICERS for only six months but obviously his passion rose, his commitment became steadfast, and he knew James Wilson, President there was too much at stake to step away after only a few months. Timothy Myers, Council Commissioner

James Layman, Treasurer Since the founding of the Boy Scouts of America, James West has been an inspiration to generations Gary Harden, Legal Counsel of Scouters, professionals and volunteers, who Vice Presidents: have followed in his footsteps to keep Scouting strong in our communities. I am inspired by the work of not only past generations of leaders, but also Jennifer Vancil, Administration by the team of volunteers who make Scouting possible to the youth of today. Becoming steadfast in your commitment to our values is at times Shawn Chowdhary, Properties difficult, however, you are creating the next generation of leaders through VACANT, Impact & Development the Scouts you serve. They will lean against your example and gain a self- confidence they never knew possible. It is because of you that our H. Edwin Frey, Program accomplishments soar, and our Scouts seem to stand a little stronger Larry Caffro, Membership every day. Just in case you haven’t noticed this happening in your weekly meetings or recent campouts, I can assure you that I see evidence of it in Jeff Gibbs, District Operations every Scout I meet. Robert Thompson, Strategic Plan Just as James E. West knew then, as we know now, that character building William Giezie, Member at Large and leadership training is not an exercise or a list of requirements, but it is Mark Urrutia, Member at Large a lifestyle and a journey that has no end. Thankfully, because of you, it is replete with reward and spiritual growth like no other youth development District Chairmen: program in the history of America. I am proud to serve alongside leaders like you. Together, like James West, we can make a profound impact in the Barbara Farkas, Commodore Perry lives of youth and their families throughout Northwest Ohio. Linda Pocock, Eagle Bay
