ps4 cd vs download size Every Eternal launch detail to know, from preload to download size. Bethesda has confirmed all the details for Doom Eternal' s March 20 launch. Bethesda and 's Doom Eternal will be launching for PC, PS4, , and Stadia on March 20, and Bethesda has shared every piece of information that players might need to know about the launch. Here's everything you might want to know about the game's file size, technical specifications, and pre-order bonuses. Doom Eternal release date and start times. The PC, PS4, Xbox One, and versions of Doom Eternal are poised to launch in most regions on March 20 , with a Japanese release coming on March 26. A Switch version has been announced but won't be released until later this year on an unspecified date. The game was originally supposed to come out in November 2019, but id Software and Bethesda delayed it to ensure the game will "live up to our standards of speed and polish." The official launch times for each platform do vary slightly. In North America, the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Doom Eternal can be played as of 12 a.m. Eastern on March 20. For people outside of North America, the game will unlock at midnight in your respective region. The only exception to that is Mexican players on Xbox One, who won't be able to access Doom Eternal until 1 a.m. Eastern that day. The game unlock for American PC and Stadia players at 12:01 a.m. Eastern on March 20. When is the Doom Eternal preload available? Bethesda confirmed that pre-loading for Doom Eternal will be available 48 hours before launch in each respective region. In North America, that means PS4 and Xbox One pre-loads will be available at 12 a.m. Eastern on March 18, while PC players will have to wait an extra minute before they start preloading. The Google Stadia version of the game does not require any preload whatsoever as it's played over the cloud. What is Doom Eternal's file size? While its size pales in comparison to the likes of Call of Duty: Warzone or the upcoming Final Fantasy VII Remake , Doom Eternal will still take up a decent chunk of your hard drive. The Microsoft Store listing for the game claims that Doom Eternal will have a file size of 40.02 GB on Xbox One. Meanwhile, Bethesda's post recommends that players have 50 GB of space for the game on their PC. But there's a separate multiplayer element that supposedly takes up another 38 GB on top of that. That essentially means regardless of the platform, players will probably need around 80 GB of free space in total. The PS4 and file sizes have not been revealed yet. Doom Eternal will reportedly have a 5 GB day one patch as well, though that probably isn't required if you aren't interested in its online features. How will Doom Eternal run on my platform? Doom Eternal is a very fast-paced game, so it's critical for players to know how well it can potentially run on the platform they are interested in. Thankfully, the new Slayers Club post highlights how well the game will run on every platform. Standard PS4 players will be able to play Doom Eternal at 1080p and 60 FPS with HDR support. PS4 Pro players will be able to up-sample the game to 4K and still have the game run at 60 FPS. If you play Doom Eternal on an Xbox One or Xbox Series X, the game will still run at 60 FPS but will be up-sampled to 1080p from 900p, giving it the lowest quality resolution of any version. That being said, playing on an Xbox One X will up-sample the game from 1800p to 4K, which is the best the game will look on any console. It will support HDR on both Xbox One S and Xbox One X. PC players will see more variation in the resolution and framerate depending on their build, but playing at 4K and 60 FPS certainly is in the realm of possibility. Finally, Google Stadia players will also have HDR support and will play at 1080p and 60 PFS on an HD display and will be upsampled to 4K on screens that support that. Doom Eternal Pre-Order Bonuses. If you want to preload the game and play it right at midnight digitally, you'll need to pre-order the game. Thankfully, that comes with some nice bonuses. Pre-orders come with the Rip and Tear Pack that consists of a Throwback Shotgun Weapon Skin and a DOOT Revenant Skinga, and a bonus campaign level. Most notably though, all pre-orders come with a free copy of Doom 64 , which is being re-released on March 20 as well. Cyberpunk 2077 download size clocks in at over 100GB on PS4 and PS5. As we said in our Cyberpunk 2077 review, CD Projekt Red's latest is a massive open-ended RPG, and as one Reddit user discovered when pre- loading the game on PS4, it's got a massive 102GB download to match. Reddit user TupperwareNinja shared a screenshot of the in-progress PS4 download this morning, which they were able to start early since they live in New Zealand. They were downloading the PS4 version of the game to their PS5, but the file size is the same on both consoles thanks to backwards compatibility. The initial download is a hefty 102.447GB, which is nearly 50% larger than the recommended hard drive space for the PC version of the game. It's worth noting that this is just the download size; the actual hard drive footprint could be slightly smaller or a good deal larger depending on a few factors, most notably the day-one patch for the game. That said, the PS4 versions of multiplatform games are often larger than Xbox One and PC versions. Red Dead Redemption 2, for instance, was initially about 17GB bigger on PS4. The final Cyberpunk 2077 delay was primarily motivated by the then-struggling console versions of the game, so in a way it's no surprise that they're less compact than the PC version. Nobody outside of CD Projekt Red has played the console version of the game, either, so we have no way of knowing how much is contained in the initial download and how much will be added in the day-one update. In any case, with the final release date fast approaching, PS4 owners will want to get their chunky Cyberpunk 2077 download started early if they plan on playing as soon as it drops. Dark Souls 3 PS4 Download Size Is Really Manageable. While Dark Souls 3 is out in Japan, it’s not yet available in the United States or Europe. While we sit and wait and read reviews that tell us the game is quite good, there are a few bright spots at the end of the tunnel that we can hang our hats on. One of those bright spots is that there actually is a way to get the game in North America and UK, as long as you want to take the long way around. Another bright spot is that according to the PlayStation Store listing, the game’s download size is a mere 17.3GB. That’s quite the difference from games of this magnitude which tend to be closer to 50GB, especially when you’re talking about downloading the entire game, instead of purchasing a disc and then going through a smaller installation download. In reality, the title’s download size seems almost too good to be true. If you’re anything like us, you’ve long since started to delete older games you still haven’t finished in order to make room for newer games like this one. Dark Souls 3 is due out on the Xbox One, PC and PS4 in North America and UK on April 12. Before you purchase, check out our pretty positive review of the game. PS5 game install sizes revealed – you're going to need a bigger SSD. Game download sizes grow with every console generation. With the PS5 storage confirmed to be at 825GB SSD, we've wondered how much space the PS5 launch lineup would take up, not to mention Sony's ample lineup of future PS5 games. Now, Sony has begun to display some game install sizes on its digital storefront, and based on the storage required by two of its launch titles, it turns out your drive might fill up more quickly than you'd like. On the pre-order page for Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Launch Edition, the disclaimer on the bottom warns that it will take up "105 GB minimum". Much of that space will be taken up by DLC, as the base game's pre-order page says it will take up only "50 GB minimum". The Demon's Souls pre-order page, for comparison, comes in at "66 GB minimum". Designed solely for a next-gen console, it's perhaps unsurprising that it would end up larger than Miles Morales, despite not having to render an urban open world setting like New York City. We don't have any other confirmed PS5 install sizes at present. But just with these two games, you're taking up at least 20% of your base SSD space. Likely more, because some of that space will undoubtedly be taken up by Sony's operating system. For comparison, we recently learned that nearly 200GB of the Xbox Series X 1TB SSD is taken up by vital software. If the PS5 loses a comparable amount of storage to pre-installs, then Miles Morales and Demon's Souls would take up more than a quarter of the overall space. Expandable storage and PS4 port sizes. We found one other bit of game install data: on that the PS4 Miles Morales pre-order page, it lists its install size at "52GB minimum" — just slightly larger than its next-gen counterpart. Perhaps some additional work was necessary to make the game work for an older console. This pertains to how large PS4 titles will be when ported to the PS5. Playstation Plus owners will get access to 18 games at launch. Making the assumption that they'll be roughly the same size on the PS5, we added up all of their current estimated storage sizes and got at least 700GB , with an average of about 40GB each. We can assume the download sizes will be comparable because they are ports rather than remakes, and are mainly benefitting from the PS5's faster load times. Plus, you can save these on your old PS4 hard drives to save room. But for something like Grand Theft Auto 5: Enhanced Edition, it's far less certain how large it will be. GTA 5 was 17GB on the PS3 and 70GB on the PS4; with further improvements for its third iteration, we can only guess how large it will get this round. All of this is leading towards an obvious conclusion: PS5 owners who want more than a dozen games on their console, particularly next-gen games, will want to invest in expandable storage. While you can use an HDD for old games, newer titles will require an NVMe PC drive that uses a PCIe 4.0 interface and are capable of at least a 5.5GB/s transfer speed. As of now, there don't appear to be any of these on the market, however. For now, you'll just have to watch your PS5 SSD storage space carefully.
