ATTACHMENT 1 Introduction The following tables represent the site-specific information for each route by alternative. The intended use of this list is to compare specific road and trail management proposals for each alternative Travel Management Plan scenario. Individual travel routes are identified by number, and many by name, and are listed according to the ranger district in which they are found. This list is intended to be used in conjunction with the forest roads and trails alternative maps. Summer road and trail listing by alternative Only roads and trails under the jurisdiction of the Forest Service are listed in this section. Roads and trails under the jurisdiction of county, state, or other federal agencies are not included. The summer strategy is based on the following legend. Strategies for each route may vary by alternative. Summer season is considered the snow-free season. Summer season begins May 21 (at 00:00) and ends November 22 (at 23:59). Summer Strategy Roads open to licensed motorized only (highway legal) Roads open to licensed and unlicensed (all vehicles) Trails open to motorized vehicles < 50 inches in width (ATV) Trails open to 2-wheeled motor vehicles (motorcycles) Trails open to mechanized vehicles (bicycles) Trails open to animal (horse) and foot (hike) Roads and trails managed under special use permit (SUP) Roads and trails closed to the public or decommissioned Note: All motorized and mechanized modes of travel must be on designated routes. Highway legal vehicles are considered motor vehicles licensed under State law for general operation on all public roads within the state. Animal (horse) and foot (hike) are allowed to travel across country and generally on all routes. There are some routes that may limit animal (horse) or foot (hike) use for safety reasons. Add / Decom A Y in the Add column represents a route that is being added to the system. These routes were not part of the inventoried designated system and were considered unauthorized. These routes were examined for inclusion by alternative. See the FEIS for a full discussion on unauthorized routes. An X or Y in the Decom column represents a route that is being decommissioned. See the FEIS for a full discussion on decommissioning routes. Page A1‐i Winter routes by alternative Winter motorized routes are listed in the tables. They correspond to the winter alternative maps. Routes open to motorized use are for over-snow motorized vehicles only. An over-snow motorized vehicle is defined as a vehicle that is designed for use over snow and runs on a track or tracks and/or ski or skis while in use over snow (36 CFR 212.1). Any other vehicle other than defined by 36 CFR 212 for winter use, including wheeled vehicles such as full-sized vehicles, all-terrain vehicles, motorcycles, mountain bikes, and mechanized vehicles, are prohibited, unless on a plowed or maintained road. Generally there are no restrictions to non-motorized over-snow activities. Groomed routes for cross-country skiing may restrict other uses to keep routes intact. Winter season is considered the snow season. Over-snow motorized travel begins November 23 (at 00:00) and ends May 20 (at 23:59). Maps show where winter over-snow motorized use is open, restricted, or prohibited on the forest. For the restricted areas over-snow motorized use is only allowed on the routes shown. In the open to over-snow motorized use areas there are routes that snowmobilers use. Since these are open strategies (a snowmobile can go anywhere in the mapped area), there is no need to list them in the travel management plan. Winter Routes The routes listed as Motorized in this table are those that occur in the RESTRICTED strategy only. Motorized represents routes open to over-snow vehicles. Plowed access allows for wheeled motorized access. This table is best used with the alternative maps. Year-round restrictions to all uses There is one area on the forest, east of Avalanche Creek, closed to all activities for the protection and health of the bighorn sheep that reside there.
