DVR Network Setup Connect the DVR to a router using a networking cable. The cable should snap in on both ends. Connect a monitor and mouse to the DVR. Power on the DVR. On a computer connected to the same router as the DVR: Go to the Start Menu and Search or Run "cmd". If using Windows 8 or 10, press Windows + X and select "Command Prompt" Type in "ipconfig" and press enter. Write down the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway. If using Mac OS X, go to System Preferences->Network->Advanced and note the IPv4 address, subnet mask, and router (gateway) address. You can skip the wizard on the DVR if it comes up. On the DVR , go to Menu->Configuration->Network->General. The default login is user “admin” and password “aaaa1111” (or “12345” on revision 1 units). Uncheck “Enable DHCP” Set the IPv4 address to the same as the PC's except the last 3 digits . The last 3 digits must be unique on the network (not used by any other device including the default gateway). If you don't know which addresses are already in use, check your router's list of connected devices. The last 3 digits should be less than 254 and greater than 1. Some routers may have additional restrictions on the range of allowed addresses. Here we have selected "112" for the last 3 digits. Write down the new IP address. Set the IPv4 Subnet and Default Gateway numbers to be same as the PC's. The Prefered DNS Server can be either your Gateway number (192.168.1.1 in this example) or the DNS address provided by your ISP. Click “Apply” Go to Network > More Settings Set HTTP Port to 7000 (if not being used by other devices on the same external IP). If 7000 is already used by another device on the local network, try using another available number. Take notes of port assignments. Server port may be left at 8000 (if not used by other devices on the same external IP). RTSP port may be left at 554 (if not used by other devices on the same external IP). Make sure the 3 port numbers assigned here are not being used by any other local network devices that will be accessed from the outside internet. Use another number if there is a conflict. Click “Apply” PORT FORWARDING On the router the DVR is connected to , you may set port forwarding for the DVR’s local IP address and HTTP port (7000 in this example), client software port (8000 in this example), and RTSP port (554 in this example) of the DVR. Port forwarding will allow for direct outside internet access to the DVR. For your specific router, please check the router manual or go to http://www.portforward.com (select router and refer to the default guide) for reference. Port forward on the local IP address of the DVR, ports 7000 / 8000 / 554, and both UDP and TCP protocols. (If you used different port numbers than the ones in this example, use those port numbers instead.) Enable the entry and save settings. An example from a Linksys router is shown. If the current router is connected to another upstream router or modem/router, you may port forward on the upstream router to the current router on ports 7000 / 8000 / 554, the local IP address of the current router (log into this router to find its WAN address) and UDP/TCP protocols. Local Internet Access We can test the DVR's local internet access by typing in the local IP address and port number into Internet Explorer on a computer connected to the same router . Make sure to include “http://” at the beginning. Here, we typed in http://192.168. 1 .112:7000 We will add the DVR to the local zone before logging in. If you don't get a login, check the ip address again, and see if the network port is correctly plugged in. Adding DVR to the local zone Go to Internet options->Security->Local intranet->Sites->Advanced Click “Add” Click Close->OK->Apply->OK Log in with “admin” and “12345”. In the main window you will be prompted to download and install a plugin (“WebComponents”). Click the link. Click “Save” Open the downloads folder. Close the browser. Run “WebComponents” from the downloads folder. Follow the prompts to install the software. Log back into the DVR by typing its local ip and port into the url bar again. The main DVR screen should show. If there are any problems, restart Internet Explorer and log in again. Click on a quadrant. Double click on a camera channel name (or click on the live view icon) on the left bar. You should see a green triangle indicating connection to a quadrant. Here we mapped camera 1 to the upper left quadrant. Now we are ready to test outside internet access to the DVR. Remote Access We now need the external IP address . Using a computer on the same router as the DVR, check http://ip-lookup.net for the “WAN” IP address. Using a web browser, type into the address bar “http://” and the external IP address of the DVR followed by “:7000” (see image on left). Here, 362.223.13.45 is our external ip. We appended “:7000” to the external ip. See the example shown here. If using SimpleDDNS (see below), use the url provided in your SimpleDDNS account. If using other dynamic DNS services, append “:7000” to the domain name. For example, http://pimfg.no-ip.com:7000 This screen should come up. You may log in with “admin” and “12345”. If Internet Explorer does not show any video you may need to add the current address to the local zone (Internet options->Security->Local intranet- >Sites->Advanced->Add). See additional troubleshooting steps at the bottom. If no login screen appears, there may be a problem with port forwarding. Double check the settings. If settings are correct, you can also check with your ISP. Dynamic DNS (optional) The DVR's external IP address may change from time to time unless your internet account is set for static ip. Dynamic DNS allows you to access the DVR using a URL name (for example http://test.no-ip.com) instead of ip address. Even if your external ip address changes, the URL used to access the DVR will remain the same. This saves having to change the app settings when the IP changes. You can set up the included SimpleDDNS service on the DVR. Third party DDNS services can be programmed on either the DVR or the router. We will cover the setup for SimpleDDNS because it is included on the DVR. For dynamic DNS updating via the DVR Go to Menu->Configuration->Network->Extranet Check “Enable DDNS” Select from the available servers. Here, we selected SIMPLEDDNS. Enter an unused device domain name that is unique. If using a 3 rd party (not SimpleDDNS) DDNS service, use the device domain as assigned on the account, and fill out the login information. The keyboard can toggle to alphabetic mode on the right side of the password text box. Click “Apply”. If it can't connect, check the network DNS settings. SimpleDDNS configuration (if using for DDNS) Register on www.simpleddns.com On the simpleddns website, go to “Device Management”->”Add” Enter the serial number of the DVR. The serial number can be found in the DVR menu under Maintenance → System Info. (The DVR menu must be accessed at the DVR, not remotely.) Use a unique name for “Device Domain” and match it to the one assigned on the DVR. We used “pimfgtest1” in the previous step, so we match it here. For “HTTP port” use 7000. Click “OK”. It should say “Adding completed” if the DVR is accessible. If you get an error, make sure the serial number is correct, and test the network connection on the DVR (go to Maintenance->Net Detect- >Detection, type in a url under “Destination Address” and click “Test” to get a response time.) After adding, look for the URL to use under Device Status → Device Link This is the URL used for accessing the DVR remotely. To test access, you can paste the Url into a web browser to see if a login appears. Mobile Access After setting up internet access using a computer, you can install the mobile app iVMS-4500 (lite) . Our example here is using iVMS-4500 for Android. The iPhone / iPad version will be similar. Launch the app. Click on the menu icon in the upper left. Select “Devices” Click “+” and “Manual Adding” You can access the DVR using either its external ip address , or its hostname (obtained from a DDNS service.) (1) External IP address access Select “Register Mode” as IP/Domain, and fill in the external IP and server port (8000 in this tutorial). (2) DDNS hostname access (using SIMPLEDDNS) Select “Register Mode” as “HiDDNS” if using SimpleDDNS (otherwise “IP/Domain”). The server address can be ignored. Enter “Device Domain” as the device domain assigned to the DVR. If using SimpleDDNS, no port setting is necessary. Otherwise, “port” should be the server port (8000). Enter the DVR login information (default login is “admin” and “12345”). Click the save icon in the upper right. You may click “Start Live View” If you are not able to connect, make sure the port number, address, and login settings are correct. Double check every letter because typos are common. Make sure your mobile device is currently on wi-fi or data.
