Rainbow walking inspiration 2021 Rossendale covers a number of towns around the valley of the River Irwell. The borough includes Bacup, Haslingden and Rawtenstall. Visit Lancashire have shared walking routes. The Ainsdale & Birkdale Sandhills Nature Reserve includes the stunning Ainsdale Hills, Birkdale Hills, Frontals, Sands Lake, Velvet Trail and Birkdale Beach and is home to rare dunes, beach and woodland habitats. This local Nature Reserve is one of the largest areas of wild dunes left in Britain and is home to a vast diversity of rare, special and beautiful including the rare Natterjack Toad - whose astonishing chorus earns it the local name of ‘Birkdale Nightingale’. Irby is a village on the Wirral. Irby Heath is managed by the National Trust and there is a circular walk around the outskirts of Irby and the edge of Thurstaston Common, with an option to take in part of Arrowe Country Park. This is a three mile circular waymarked walk from the market town of Nantwich in Cheshire. The walk heads out through the Riverside Park on the paths following the River Weaver before crossing farmland to join the towpath of the Shropshire Union Canal for the return leg. With the West Pennine Moors and the summits of Rivington Pike and Winter Hill right on its doorstp, Bolton has plenty of options for walkers. Here are six great walks near Bolton. From a leisurely stroll along the Huddersfield Narrow Canal towpath, to a hill walk in the uplands at Crompton Moor there are walks for everyone. The Oldham Way and two national trails, the Pennine Way and Pennine Bridleway, provide great long distance routes too. Warrington is surrounded by parks and open spaces. There are self-guided walking routes you can walk along which include the areas in and around Culcheth Linear Park, Moore Nature Reserve, Spud Wood and the Bridgewater Canal. Qualifying Expedition West Pennine Moors Tuesday/Wednesday 11th/12th June We will leave school at 9.00 a.m. and travel by coach, dropping off at the two start points. We will have 7 groups walking one way and 7 groups the other, meeting up at the campsite. We will pick up at the two end points and return to school by coach. I hope we will be back at school for 5.30. Your route should be 24 km over the two days. The assessor will not accept it if it is much shorter than this. Place Grid ref. Make sure that you have a checkpoint at any hazard you identify on your route. You MUST have a checkpoint where you cross the A675 because this is a very fast and dangerous road. You must not use the paths that run alongside the M61. Try to keep on the East side of the reservoirs or the paths that run close to the west side. You should not be walking along roads apart from unavoidable short stretches to connect two footpaths. The presentation of your route cards must be good and you must have clear, detailed route descriptions. This is an area with plenty of historical interest as well as natural beauty, the terraced gardens are excellent.

Rivington Conservation Area Appraisal and Management Proposals Conservation Area Appraisals and Management Proposals Preface Readers of are advised that this publication is a supporting document in the Chorley Council Local Development Framework (LDF) and therefore forms part of the evidence base. It is NOT a Supplementary Planning Document (SPD). This document seeks to define the special interest of Rivington Conservation Area and identify the issues that threaten the special qualities of the conservation area. It then provides guidelines to prevent harm and achieve environmental improvements within the area. It will be used to guide future developments to ensure that all alterations respect its character. Introduction Conservation Areas are areas that are considered to have a special architectural or historic interest. It is important to preserve the special character of these areas for the future by imposing building restrictions to protect the appearance of these areas. Historical road layouts, grouping of buildings, street furniture and surfaces all add to the appearance and character of an area. Under section 69 of the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990 the Council is required to review areas of special character that it thinks are worthy of preservation and designate them as conservation areas. Within conservation areas the Council has powers to control demolition, extensions and other alterations. In some areas Article 4 Directions are used to control minor alterations that affect the appearance of buildings within the conservation area, such as installation of plastic framed windows and doors, installation of porches, creating hardstandings for cars in front gardens or any other alterations to the external appearance of the building.

This led to fears that January might bring a repeat of the freezing conditions of December. This was not to be as milder weather arrived mid-month, with temperatures climbing into double figures with a maximum of 11°C on the 15th. However, as the weather turned fine, the temperatures fell and sharp frosts returned with -5°C on the 20th, and apart from a wet day on the 25th, dry, fine weather persisted to the end of the month 4ith frosts of -4°C on 28th and 29th.
