Rest of the day is free at leisure for you to explore the city. Day 02 PHNOM PENH / SIEM REAP (Breakfast, Lunch) After breakfast, proceed on a sightseeing tour around the city visiting the Royal Palace - one of the impressive and colourful Khmer-style Palaces which was built in 1866 by the predecessors of King Norodom; Silver Pagoda that displays plenty of Buddha Statues that are decorated and made with diamonds, emeralds, gold as well as silver; Wat Phnom – an ancient temple set back just a few hundred metres from the riverfront and sits atop the hill that gave the city its name; and followed by a little shopping at Phsar Toul Tom Poung – a traditional Cambodian market that is often referred to as the Russian Market and offers a large selection of handicrafts, woodcarvings, silk scarves, jewellery, musical instruments, etc… After lunch, embark on a 6-hour journey to Siem Reap. Upon your arrival, transfer to your selected hotel for check-in and thereafter, rest of the evening is free at leisure for you to explore the city. Day 03 SIEM REAP (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner) After breakfast, begin the day with a visit to The South Gate of Angkor Thom, the last capital of the Khmer Empire. Explore the temples inside the walls of the “Great City” such as Bayon, Phimeanakas, Baphoun, Terrace of the Elephants as well as the Terrace of the Leper King; followed by a small circuit tour of Thommanon, Chau Say Tevoda, Ta Keo and Ta Prohm, a temple with jungle-like atmosphere with a combination of giant trees and extensive roots growing out of the ruins. After lunch, explore the grounds of Angkor Wat, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the “Seven Wonders of the World”. Constructed during the first half of the 12th century and encompassing an area of about 400 acres, this awe-inspiring temple is the largest and the best-preserved monument within the ancient city that was the epicentre of the Khmer empire that once ruled most of Southeast Asia. Later in the evening, take a short hike up to the top of Bakheng Hill for a fabulous view of sunset over Angkor Wat and its surrounding rice fields as well as forested countryside; before relaxing and unwinding while enjoying a dinner with Khmer Traditional Show.     Destination: Angkor Archaeological Park The Complete Temple Guide 1 The Temples of Angkor Ak Yom The earliest elements of this small brick and sandstone temple date from the pre-Angkorian 8th century. Scholars believe that the inscriptions indicate that the temple is dedicated to the Hindu 'god of the depths'. This is the earliest known example of the architectural design of the 'temple-mountain', which was to become the primary design for many of the Angkorian period temples including Angkor Wat. The temple is in a very poor condition. Angkor Thom Angkor Thom ("Great City") was the last and most enduring capital city of the Khmer empire. It was established in the late 12th century by King Jayavarman VII. The walled and moated royal city covers an area of 9 km², within which are located several monuments from earlier eras as well as those established by Jayavarman and his successors. At the centre of the city is Jayavarman's state temple, the Bayon, with the other major sites clustered around the Victory Square immediately to the north. Angkor Thom was established as the capital of Jayavarman VII's empire, and was the centre of his massive building programme. One inscription found in the city refers to Jayavarman as the groom and the city as his bride. Angkor Thom is accessible through 5 gates, one for each cardinal point, and the victory gate leading to the Royal Palace area. Angkor Wat Angkor Wat ("City of Temples"), the largest religious monument in the world, is a masterpiece of ancient architecture.     CAMBODIA DISCOVERY 7 Days / 6 Nights DAY 1: Arrival in Phnom Penh Our guide will welcome you at the airport. Transfer to hotel to check in. In the afternoon, we’ll visit the splendid Royal Palace which was started by King Norodom (1834-1904) in 1886, when the capital was moved to Phnom Penh. French influence can be seen in the formal gardens which enhance the palace, and there are some European-style buildings on the grounds. Continue on to the Silver Pagoda, formerly a wooden building that was rebuilt in 1962 in concrete and marble. It is famous for its 90 kg solid gold Buddha made in 1907 and an emerald Buddha said to be made of baccarat crystal. The next stop will be the National Museum which houses the world's foremost collection of ancient Khmer archaeological, religious and artistic artefacts from the 4th to the 13th centuries.
