Ganesha is widely worshipped as the god of wisdom, prosperity and good fortune. At Shiva-Vishnu Temple, Ganapathi Atharva Sheersha Abhishekam will be performed every day for 21 days until Ganesha Chathurthi day. Varasiddhi Vinayaka Vratam is performed on Ganesha Chathurthi day, along with Sahasra Modaka Homa and Mooshika Vahana Seva. Samoohika (Group) Laksha Dhurva archana is planned for Saturday, September 18th, 2021 for greater devotee participation. Ganesha Nimajjanam is planned for Sunday, September 19th 2021.     HINDU GODS AND GODDESSES 1. BRAHMA The first deity of the Hindu trinity, Lord Brahma is considered to be the god of Creation, including the cosmos and all of its beings. Brahma also symbolizes the mind and intellect since he is the source of all knowledge necessary for the universe. Typically you’ll find Brahma depicted with four faces, which symbolize the completeness of his knowledge, as well as four hands that each represent an aspect of the human personality (mind, intellect, ego and consciousness). 2. VISHNU The second deity of the Hindu trinity, Vishnu is the Preserver (of life). He is believed to sustain life through his adherence to principle, order, righteousness and truth. He also encourages his devotees to show kindness and compassion to all creatures. Vishnu is typically depicted with four arms to represent his omnipotence and omnipresence. It is also common to see Vishnu seated upon a coiled snake, symbolizing the ability to remain at peace in the face of fear or worry. 3. SHIVA The final deity of the Hindu trinity is Shiva, also known as the Destroyer. He is said to protect his followers from greed, lust and anger, as well as the illusion and ignorance that stand in the way of divine enlightenment. However, he is also considered to be responsible for death, destroying in order to bring rebirth and new life. Where is the need for other ornaments? There is no greater experience than the feeling that one is Aathma-- Aham Ethath. " Aham ("I") is defined as Aathma, the Self. The word Ethath means all these. It covers all the objects in the Universe which are physical and subtle and also the Sun, Moon, stars and planers. It signifies that you are not the physical body You say body" which implies that you are not the body. What is this body constituted of? It is a combination of Pancha bhuuthas (five elements), Pancha Praanas (five vital airs), and the Pancha Koshas (five sheaths). The entire universe is the body of the Supreme Lord. It consists of all the moving and static things. In Vedhaantik parlance, it is deemed to be Jnaana (superior wisdom) when you say am not the body." One should be extremely fortunate to realise this. Whatever you see in the external world is Dhrishya (that which is seen). The Sun, Moon, stars, the five elements which are constituents of the universe are all Dhrishya. You are seeing your body too as you see other things. So the body is also Dhrishya, that which is seen by you. Who is then the sect? The seer is Dhrashta. The body is the object and you are the sect. Without a seer there is no question of anything being seen. Some people talk about Shuunya (emptiness or nothingness).

Fairchild Ruggles, Chair Dr. Aneesha Dharwadker Assistant Professor Jessica Birkenholtz ABSTRACT Sacred landscapes in India play a pivotal role in the celebration of religious traditions and the mythological stories associated with them. A pilgrimage is an act of journeying to the sacred landscapes primarily for religious reasons and spiritual benefits but is not limited to them. Pilgrimages have various types of paths like circular, linear, spiral, converging at a central point, etc. Circular pilgrimage like the Panchkroshi in Varanasi, India, ends at the same point it started, thus forming an endless loop. The Panchkroshi Pilgrimage is about circumambulating around the holy territory, along a 25-mile long route, protected by 108 shrines of Hindu gods and goddesses. There are a number of goals identified for performing a pilgrimage, with the most important being the attainment of divine salvation. The act of achieving these goals is to walk through the sacred landscapes of the pilgrimage. However, with rapid urbanization and lack of preservation, these heritage landscapes have suffered degradation. The pilgrimage path has become fragmented, breaking the continuity and flow of movement. The pilgrimage route has become a palimpsest of urban residential, commercial zones, state and national highways with no designated pathway for pilgrims to walk on. My master’s in landscape architecture has contributed immensely towards the sensitivity I feel for the environment.
