Special César Chávez La Prensa Edition, March 30, 2018 César Estrada Chávez is a civil rights activist who cofounded the United Farm Workers [UFW] and who came to Ohio and Michigan areas numerous times to support the civil rights efforts of Toledo’s Baldemar Velásquez of the Farm Labor Organizing Committee [FLOC] and others. His birthday is March 31st and he died at the age of 66 in April of 1993, 25 years ago. In honor of Mr. Chávez, La Prensa and numerous groups will be hosting essay and drawing contests. The essay contest deals with the question, “How would civil rights activist César Chávez view the polarized political climate in the today and anti-immigrant rhetoric?” The contests were announced at a WTOL11/FOX36 broadcast on February 26, 2018 on “Your Day” with an interview by Amanda Fay of WTOL11/Fox36. José Luna, Josh Flores, and Rico of La Prensa were interviewed. Individuals and groups are welcome to get involved in this Special Anniversary issue of La Prensa, remembering the life and passage of César Estrada Chávez. Details of the contest will be in the March 9, 2018 issue of La Prensa and online at: www.laprensa1.com In the photo are José Luna, Josh Flores, and Amanda Fay.
