Identity checking is a key part of the application process and without thorough checking AccessNI may not be able to match an applicant to their criminal record. This means an employer or voluntary provider may not receive important information about the applicant and potentially introduces risk to the recruitment processes, the organisation and could undermine safeguarding arrangements. Applicants are required to provide a range of ID documents as part of the AccessNI application process. -

McCurry: "Our Lady, dispossessed": Female Ulster Poets and Sexual Politics "Our1/Our Lady, dispossessed": Female Ulster Poets and Sexual Politics by JACQUELINE MCCURRY OETRY AND POLITICS, like church and state, should be separated," writes P Belfast critic Edna Longley (185); in Eire and in Northern Ireland this is not the case: the marriage of church and state in the Republic has resulted in constitutional bans on divorce and on abortion; Northern Ireland's Scots Presbyterian majority continues to preventminority Irish-Catholic citizens from having full participationin society. Butwhile mencontinue to control church and state, women have begun to raise their voices in poetry and in protest. Northern Ireland's new poets, through the 1960s and 1970s, were exclusively male: Jan1es Simmons, Seamus Heaney, Michael Longley, Derek Mahon, Paul Muldoon, Seamus Deane, Frank Ormsby, Tom Paulin, and Ciaran Carson dominated the literary scene until the early 1980s. In 1982 Medbh McGuckian published her first book ofpoetry. Since then, she has published two additional collections and achieved international fame, while younger women poets like Janet Shepperson and Ruth Hooley have made their debuts in print. -

Ágnes Zsófia Kovács Sweet Duplicity: Jamesian Moral Ambiguity in Colm Tóibín’s Brooklyn Colm Tóibín (1955) the internationally renowned Irish novelist published his sixth novel Brooklyn in 2009, which won the Costa Book award the same year. It relates the story of Eilis Lacey, a young Irishwoman who emigrates to the US looking for a better life in the 1950s. The book is a fascinating read both because of how it handles the problem of cultural difference between the US and Ireland of the 1950s and also because of the detached storytelling, the use of point of view limited to the perspective of one character, that allows for multiple readings of the same imaginative scenario. Incidentally, both themes, the negotiation of cultural difference and the limited point of view triggering diverse reactions tie the book in with Tóibín’s other novels, his avowed psychological interest, the so called Jamesian legacy. In this essay, I am going to pinpoint those elements of Brooklyn that create a moral dilemma constructed along Jamesian lines. I claim that the subjects of illicit love, misguided loyalty, and moral ambiguity in the novel are themes that are connected to the Jamesian power of secrets Tóibín continues to explore. In order to make my position clear, first I am exploring those elements of the plot in Brooklyn that lead to Eilis’s moral dilemma about secret lovers. -

Ue de Saint-eire VERY POET is, at bottom, a kind of alchemist, every poem an ap E paratus for transn1uting the "base metal" of life into the gold of art. Especially is this true of Yeats, not only as regards the ambient world of other people and events, but also the private one of his own art and thought: "Myself must I remake / Till I am Timon and Lear / Or that William Blake...." So persistent was he in this work of transmutation, and so adept at it, that the ordinary affairs of daily life often must have seemed to him little more than a clumsy version of a truer, more intense life lived in the clarified world of his imagination. However that may have been for Yeats, it is certainly true for his readers: incidents, persons, squabbles with which or whom he was intermittently entangled increas ingly owe what importance they still have for us to the fact of occurring somewhere, caught and finalized, in the passionate world of his poems. -
