IPMA-HR HR Center 1617 Duke Street Alexandria, VA 22314 (703)-549-7100 2 A new paradigm for "dress for success"? Body piercing. T-shirts. Facial hair. Tattoos. Where should employers draw the line in the workplace? What grooming guidelines, if any, should organizations develop? When it comes to dress codes, what legal rights do employers and employees have? Are there any guidelines on religious dress? These questions and more are what employers and employees are asking everyday. With times quickly changing and as younger generations get older, norms and expectations slowly transform. Business attire five days a week has become more rare in the average workplace or agency. Young executives and managers are more liberal in there approaches to issues of this sort, making the term “dress for success” less stressful and more cost effective for the average person. Grooming Standards Personal "style" reflects a diverse workplace and often individuals with tattoos are creative individuals. However depending on his or her job, an employee's appearance may alienate customers.
  • GLOVES, the LONG and SHORT of IT by Patti Jones

GLOVES, the LONG and SHORT of IT by Patti Jones

GLOVES, THE LONG AND SHORT OF IT By Patti Jones I have always been fascinated by our Model A Era gloves. I find them to be sexy, but important in completing an outfit for fashion judging. In the following pages, I have attempted to show the reader the many styles, fabrics, and leathers that were used and the beautiful art deco designs they inspired. Finding gloves is easy, the hard part is finding ones that fit. Leather gloves are the hardest to find that fit. When being judged, the judges will ask you to wear one glove, and carry the other. This is so they can judge the fit of the glove on the entrant. I know of no easy way of getting leather gloves to fit, other than, putting plenty of talcum powder on and start working your fingers to the end of the glove. Silk gloves can be washed and then immediately put on so that they can dry on your hands and thus, stretch them to fit. I have some plastic glove dryers that help stretch the glove after being washed, but it’s easier to wear them. Example of glove stretchers at right. To measure your hand for your glove size, hold out your hand with fingers touching and the thumb aside. With a tape measure, measure your hand all around, but not tight. The number of inches shown on the tape measure is your correct glove size. Gloves.doc - 1 - November 2009 When looking for gloves, make sure they have the 3 gores on the back of the hand as seen in the examples of this article.

Glove Sizing Guide Industrial Gloves Fit Differently Than Most Gloves Because of the Materials Used to Provide Protection

Glove Sizing Guide Industrial gloves fit differently than most gloves because of the materials used to provide protection. We recommend using our size chart (below) and reviewing glove descriptions and materials. Please note that this chart should be used only as a general guideline, as different styles of gloves will measure slightly different. If you are still uncertain about what size would best fit your hand, give us a call at 1-616-459-4144. Two Ways to Measure Measure Your Hand (Recommended) For palm width, measure the width across your palm where your hand naturally bends. For hand height (seamless gloves only), measure from the tip of your middle finder to where the cuff will end on your forearm. Compare this measurement to the chart below to determine your glove size. For seamless gloves, the stiching color on the glove cuff corresponds to the matching size color in the chart. Or, Print this Chart to Help Measure Print the below glove chart at 100% size to assist with accurate measurement. Reducing or enlarging the printout will result in inaccurate measurements. Place your right hand on the glove chart so that the saddle of your thumb and index finger line up with the X. The measurement closest to the right edge of your hand will be the appropriate glove size. 12/3XL 11/XXL 5/XXS 10/XL 6/XS 8/M 7/S 9/L Index Finger Thumb HexArmor® Palm Width x Hand Height Size 3.18 in.
