The Framework Coaches play a critical role in our system where they identify and work with the most talented players in different age groups. They conduct the identification process together with the selectors and conveners. There is further consultation with the Head Coaches regarding the identification process, and this is to ensure that we do not miss any talented cricketers.

This program is aimed at accelerating the talent of elite cricketers in our structure and ensure that they reach their full potential. The Coaches identify a maximum of 20 players early in the year i.e. February and work with them throughout the year. The final trials are held in October to pick the final 13 players to represent the Province in various National Weeks.

The following Coaches are currently tasked to work with these talented players: 1. Onke Mtsiba: U11 – 13 boys 2. Thabang Kumalo: U15 – U17 boys 3. Martelize Van Der Merwe: U19 Girls & Senior Women 4. Mark Charlton: U19 Boys & Provincial Academy

The Academy operates as a feeder to the Northerns Senior Provincial side where it links, school, club and professional . The squad consists of 10 contracted players between the ages of 18 and 24 who are hand selected to meet our pipeline needs of the Province and the Franchise. Players that perform well in club and University cricket are given opportunities to play and train with the Academy and stake a claim to gain a contract.

The players get the following support;

Cricket Performance:

• Skill specific training at SSP • Gym and conditioning support • Matches vs other Academies, provinces and International teams • Specialists • Opportunity to play in National Academy weeks

Life Skills and Studies:

• SACA life skills training • Support from SACA player development manager-Life and study support • Study/transport/accommodation/ bursaries and support • Level 1 coaching certificate • Computer literacy course • Driving licence support • Need specific support from Player Development Manager

The Northerns Academy has been successful in producing players for the pipeline with players such as Lungi Ngidi and Tony De Zorzi benefitting from the programme. The Titans Academy came 2nd at the last CSA Academy week help in Potchefstroom in September, missing out to the Knights on run rate.

The Northerns Academy continues to support young players in cricket and life development.
