I hope this blesses you! I'll never forget the freedom, joy, and adventure that came from playing in my first band. I got my first bass for my 11th birthday, and tried to catch up with my cousin B.C. Taylor, who was already SUCH a good drummer by then. We honed our skills together in my parent's basement, to finally form a power trio called The Way with an older schoolmate, Clayton Hochstrasser. Clayton, being a year older, got his driver's license first, and was into all the cool bands at the time, one of them being Fountains of Wayne. I remember riding shotgun in his Ford Festiva every weekend, listening to our favorite bands' new albums and then going into rehearsal to try to learn them together. One song that really stuck, and became a bit of Clayton's theme song, was Fountain of Wayne's "Survival Car." That song was SO fun to play live and fully embodied that joy and youthful freedom we had through the band, and that ferocious Festiva. After hearing about FOW's Adam Schlesinger passing away due to complications of COVID-19 this past April, B.C. brought up the idea of covering "Survival Car" in our own way. Adam was quite the accomplished musician and songwriter, and undoubtedly brought so much joy through the songs of FOW, in addition to some amazing compositions for Film/TV, namely "That Thing You Do." I encourage you to check out the original of "Survival Car" as well as Adam's wiki. As always, thank YOU for listening and supporting, and thank you, Adam for the joy and memories.
