4 INTRODUCTION

Mangalore University was established on September 10, 1980 to cater to the higher educational needs of Dakshina Kannada, and Kodagu Districts. The University Campus is situated in a picturesque location and is a major centre for advanced academic studies and research. It has been recently accredited by NAAC with ‘A’ Grade thus, became a premier educational institution in the state.

Although Mangalore University is one of the youngest Universities in the country, it has within its ambit some of the oldest and prestigious institutions of higher learning. There are 25 post graduate departments on the University Campus offering 39 postgraduate courses. There are 8 postgraduate departments at P.G. Centre Chikka Aluvara, offering various postgraduate courses and six postgraduate courses are offered at University College, Mangalore and four postgraduate courses are offered at F.M.K.M.C. College, Madikeri.

The relaxation in the percentage of marks in the qualifying examination and in the reservation of seats for SC/ST/OBC and other categories shall be as per the rules of the Central Government/State government whichever is applicable.

In all the above eligibility categories SC/ST students shall have a concession of 5% marks in degree for purposes of eligibility.

22 2 Master of Candidates shall have passed Bachelor of Physical Education (BPEd) Physical degree or its equivalent with at least 50% of marks. (45% for SC/ Education- ST and Category I candidates). Candidates shall be selected on the M.P.Ed. basis of merit, following the selection procedure and the reservation norms/ guidelines prevailing in the University. Merit shall be decided on the basis of candidate’s performance in the entrance tests. CHOICE BASED CREDIT SYSTEM The University Grants Commission, New Delhi, has directed all Universities in the country to implement the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS, Semester Scheme) all programmes and issued guidelines in this regar. Government of Karnataka, has considered the implementation of CBCS. Hence, Mangalore University has framed Regulations based in UGC guidelines which will be introduced from the academic year 2016-17. The Salient Features of the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) (Semester Scheme): Each course in a programme shall carry certain number of credits, which normally represent the weightage of a course and are a function of teaching, learning and evaluation strategies such as number of contact hours, the course content, teaching methodology, learning expectations, etc. In the proposed programmes, the credits shall be based on the number of instructional hours per week, generally 1 credit is equivalent to one hour of instruction in theory, or 1 or 2 hours of

The administrative offices of the University are housed in the Administrative Building, Mangalagangothri, Konaje. The offices of the Vice-Chancellor, the Registrar, the Registrar EMPLOYMENT,(Evaluation) and INFORMATION the Finance Officer AND are GUIDANCE located in thisBUREAU building. The University Employment, Information and Guidance Bureau, located in the separate building at Mangalagangothri campus, provides information on courses and careers. Lectures and seminars are arranged in various colleges to highlight employment opportunities. Information about courses in other universities within the country and abroad are also provided. Students can register their names for employment assistance at the bureau. MAA The University has the committed Alumni Association and the same functions round the clock under the name Mangala Alumni Association. All these students who get degree from Mangalore University are the members of MAA.
