Season Highlights:

The season opens with the return of dazzling soloist, Natasha Paremski, performing Gershwin's Concerto. Dvořák's New World Symphony is an audience favourite, September 26-27. Twist, shake, rale and roll with the greatest of Elvis Presley's hits in The King - A Tribute to Elvis, October 17-19. The week-long Nordic Fesval features two of Iceland's leading musicians: violinist Sigrun Edvaldsdor, October 24-25, and pianist Vikingur Olafsson, October 31-November 1. Emily Bear: Girl with a Gi showcases a brilliant young pianist/composer who dazzled audiences on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, November 29. Randy Bachman's Symphonic Overdrive features his best hits over the past 35 years backed by the full WSO, December 5-7. Bachman-Turner-Overdrive will be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame at the Juno Awards being held March 30 in Winnipeg. The WSO offers a new way to enjoy Handel's Messiah with Messiah Sing-Along featuring guest conductor Ivars Taurins leading the way as "Herr Handel," December 12. Jeanne Lamon of Toronto's Tafelmusik will conduct the orchestra from her in a program featuring Mozart and Haydn, January 16-17. Beethoven up-close and personal as never experienced before in the WSO's third Beyond the Score® presentaon with Beethoven: Symphony No. 5, January 23-24. Canadian violinist Nikki Chooi performs Dvořák's Violin Concerto in his first Masterworks performance with the WSO; the world premiere of a new symphony by Vincent Ho is also featured, February 27-28. Fabulously gied pianist Nobuyuki Tsujii returns to the WSO with Beethoven's "Emperor" Piano Concerto, May 8-9. Sixteen singers and dancers from Dancing with the Stars, So You Think You Can Dance and American Idol perform in Ballroom with a Twist, May 22-24. The Concert Hall becomes haunted in Phantoms of the Orchestra; fairies meet and dance in the moonlight in Winter Solsce: A Rocky Mountain Fairy Tale; and the story of Jack and the Beanstalkis told with giganc puppetry and music, plus 2 more concerts in the Great-West Life Concerts for Kids series. From the Steppes to the Prairies: Celebrang 125 years of Ukrainians in Canada, a story of Ukrainians in Canada will enchant audiences with the experience that is... Rusalka! on May 14, 2015.

Dinner & A Symphony The WSO connues with the popular Dinner & A Symphony series with Bergmann's on Lombard, offering a unique experience for patrons to dine at the Centennial Concert Hall before one of four selected concerts. Each three-course dinner is themed to the following concerts: Vikingur Plays Grieg: Nordic Fesval Finale on Saturday, November 1 (Viking Icelandic Cuisine); Randy Bachman's Symphonic Overdrive on Saturday, December 6 (Holiday Overdrive "An Elevated State of Christmas Fare"); Romeo and Juliet on Saturday, February 14 (Russian Cuisine); and Singin' in the Rain - Film with Orchestra on Saturday, March 14 (American Cuisine "The Roaring Twenes"). The Dinner & A Symphony four-event package is $320. Event pricing starts at $89 per person per concert ($60 per person per dinner for those who already have a concert cket).

Soundcheck Program Soundcheck members can aend any WSO regular season concert for just $15 and are eligible for special events and perks throughout the season. Soundcheck members can subscribe to the enre WSO season for only $85. Everyone 30 years of age or younger, or full-me students over 30, are eligible for this free program. One guest can accompany the Soundcheck member for an addional $25.

Manee Series Each one-hour, mid-morning concert is introduced by the conductor while patrons get an inside scoop of the open rehearsal, followed by a performance of one or two major symphonic pieces being played in the Masterworks concert that evening. Patrons can also parcipate in a queson-and-answer session following the performance. All Manee concerts begin at 10:30 am and last about an hour.

Our cheering audience agreed when Nobu made his WSO debut in 2013 so we couldn't wait to invite him back for Beethoven's magnificent "Emperor" Concerto. Using massive forces of musicians and singers, English composer Benjamin Brien had a message when he composed his War Requiem in 1961: "My subject is War, and the Pity of War. The Poetry is in the Pity...All a poet can do today is warn," the tle page shows in poet Wilfred Owens's words, on which the work is portrayed. Owens was killed during the last days of World War I. Brien's War Requiem is among the most powerfully eloquent testaments to Owens's universal message of peace.

For the past three seasons our Beyond the Score® presentaons have been so successful, we had to bring back another! Beethoven's Fih Symphony is classical music's signature! Again in an acclaimed mul-media presentaon created by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, we'll have actors and live theatre bringing the origins of Beethoven's masterpiece to life, followed by a complete performance of the work. Beethoven, up close and personal as you've never experienced before!

Charles Chaplin: The Circus - Film with Orchestra Saturday, April 25 | 7:30 pm

The Circus won Charles Chaplin his first Academy Award in 1929 for 'Versality and genius in wring, acng, direcng and producing'. Engaged as a clown by a travelling circus, Charlie falls in love with the ill-treated daughter of The Circus proprietor, but meets a rival in the handsome new ght-rope walker. Memorable moments abound heightened by Chaplin's own musical score that will be performed live by the WSO. As an added bonus, we'll see and hear Kid Auto Races at Venice - Chaplin's first appearance as the "Lile Tramp" marking its 100th anniversary with an all-new musical score.

Every Halloween the "phantoms of the orchestra" return to haunt the concert hall. The maestro - and his terrified assistant - must use the power of the baton to control this ghoulish orchestra and lead them in concert. Inspired by The Sorcerer's Apprence, a score made popular by its reinterpretaon in the Walt Disney film Fantasia, this story is brought vividly to life in this highly entertaining concert.

In the meadows above Canmore, fairies meet and dance in the light of the full moon. If you are quiet and paent, you may get to meet them! Our magical tale follows a girl cross-country skiing in Mt. Singing, dancing, audience interacon and beauful artwork combine for a spellbinding message about the commitment and dedicaon to do anything in life well.

This concert-story, based on Roald Dahl's Revolng Rhyme, features a cast of four actors, outrageous puppets and a stunning 60-foot beanstalk, which rises from the stage to the ceiling in a maer of seconds. There's also a cow, a giant and an ambious boy with a pocket full of beans. But in Dahl's telling of the tale, geng rich depends on geng past that giant's highly developed sense of smell. A wildly entertaining story with plenty of unexpected twists!

Enter the marvelous universe of the Carnival of the Animals and discover a fantascal work by composer Camille Saint-Saëns. Winnipeg audience favourites Kyung and Michael Kim return to the Virtuosi Stage with the WSO Chamber Players in an exhilarang program of meless masterpieces. Complete with enlightening commentary, this concert will be a fascinang musical journey through the emoonal landscapes that are brought to life by a composer's choice of key. Concerto, chamber, and solo works by Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Mendelssohn, Chopin, and Liszt will be performed, with Schubert's "Trout" Quintet, and Chopin's srring "Heroic" polonaise being among the featured works.

An event for the whole family, you'll be able to sing your heart out along with others who have a similar love of classical music. The audience is arranged by voices: soprano, alto, tenor and bass. If you'd rather sit with friends or family, there's also a secon for mixed voices. Of course if you'd rather not sing, no one will force you to, but you might find yourself having more fun if you let your inhibions sit this one out.

NEW MUSIC FESTIVAL January 31 - February 6, 2015

The WSO's 24th annual New Music Fesval opens with the world- renowned Ardi Quartet performing Wolfgang Rihm's Concerto Dithyrambe for string quartet and orchestra. This year's fesval will include composers such as Mason Bates and John Luther Adams plus many more. The fesval closes with performances of Andrew Norman's Sacred Geometry, Giya Kancheli's Dixi and John Luther Adams's Become Ocean. More details to follow in 2014.

Manitoba composer Kenley Kristofferson's Morgun honours the 125th anniversary of Manitoba's Icelandic community in Gimli.
