Noelene Sanders completed a notable hat-trick skipping Joan Collins and Joy Allen to victory in the women’s championship triples at Kihikihi Bowling Club. It was the third year running that this team has taken out the title. In a topsy-turvy final, Sanders’ team beat Ngaire Lawson (s), Jeanette Kay and Olga Barnes 13-10 over 15 ends. Sanders led 6-0 after five ends. Lawson then took control, scoring on seven of the next eight ends to lead 10-7. The pendulum then swung back in Sanders’ favour. Her team finished the stronger with a 1, 3, 2 sequence to take the match and title by three shots. The men’s triples was won by Fred Boothby (s), Dan Connolly and Steve Geenty. They beat Ken Morriss (s), Ken Wells and George Douglas 15-6 in the final. Boothby beat Dave Barnes’ team 13-11 in the semi-final. Keeping in touch

Graeme and Mark Sanders’ stable profitted most from the abbrevi- ated meeting at Waipa Racing Club on Sunday. The last four races were abandoned when rain made the track slip- pery, with stewards deeming it unsafe for horses and jockeys. The Sanders’ stable saddled up the winners of the first two races of the four that were run. Rochallen followed up

LOCAL jockey Daniel Hain pilots Sanders’ trained Zeytin to victory at Waipa. Fifth McCandlish ton in 10 knocks

Bryce McCandlish set up Te Awamutu Sports Gold’s 10 run victory over Cambridge with another brilliant unbeaten 130 in Waikato Valley cricket. It was the talented right handed batsman’s second ton on the trot and fifth century in his last 10 innings for the club. He also has an unbeaten 92 to his credit. McCandlish’s latest century was laced with three sixes and 15 fours. He featured an in unbroken eighth wicket stand of 129 with New Zealand monopoly champion Geoff Christopher — a last minute ring in from Auckland. Christopher contributed an invaluable 18no, includ- ing two fours. Sports Gold dismissed Cambridge for 198, with Josh Hewlett claiming five for 52 and Nick Cochrane two for 24. A depleted Te Awamutu Sports Green team — minus key players at the World Cup soccer qualifier in Wellington — suffered a 111 run loss to Cambridge. A Ben Stinson century (105) laid the foundation for the Cambridge total of 239 all out in the 49th over. Carl Botha continued his fine form with the ball taking six for 71 off 14 overs for Sports Green. Sports Green were dismissed for 118 in 33 overs, with Ben Missen (23) and Jamie Smith (29) top scoring. The previous week, Sports Green showed their true capabilities beating Otorohanga by 58 runs at Albert Park. The home team scored 170 with Mack Lynn 48, Andrew Lawry 30no and Carl Botha 29 all amongst the runs. Otorohanga could only muster 112 in reply, with Carl Botha claiming four wickets for 20 runs. Buckley blazes

Graeme Buckley blazed his way to a two-over-par 72 in the open midweek tournament at ASB Te Awamutu Golf Club. Scoring was hot throughout the field. Dan Wallace topped the net with 62, from T. McCorkindale 63, B. Te Whare 65 and M. Wilson and M. Fromont 66. Stableford honours were shared by Murray Wallis and Joe Byford with 43 points, from D. Retemeyer, Alma Goodwin 41, R. Pompey 40, J. Parker 39 and Julie Stevanon 38. Three players scored a brace of twos to share the jackpot, R. Magilloway, M. Bouwman and G. Buckley. Other players to score a two were J. Lissington and R. Lambard. Colleen Kerr scored a decisive victory with a healthy 45 stableford on women’s club day (Wednesday). She finished well clear of her nearest rivals R. Green, E. Van Alphen and J.Harrison on 40 points, J. Earwaker 39. The nine hole putting competition was won by Sue Kay with 14 putts, from J. Blundell 15 and P. Wood 16. The following good luck/hard luck story has just come to light from the recent 54-hole mixed foursomes tournament. Women’s president, Margaret Johnson scored a hole-in-one on the testing par three, 14th hole, much to the dismay of her opponent, who placed her tee shot close enough for her partner to record an easy two, only to still lose the hole. Best of the Vets were Noel Lord 44, B. Bain 41, J. Russenberger, S. Fredrickson, R. Corkill 40, G. Vanner 39 and H. Holden 38. Scotty Dog qualifier was Lew Mace. Club members contested the Craig Vincent sponsored ‘all-in’ club scramble on Sunday. Des Milgate took out the Walker Rosebowl with 60 net, from Robin Thompson 63, Dave Trutsch 63, Allan Duncan, Jim Lambeth and Sue Thompson 65. The final of the Sterritt Trophy was won by Scott Elliott over Wattie Franks. 7174202AA TE AWAMUTU COURIER, THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 19, 2009 21 6270385AA Church Services Public Notices Presbyterian Church WELCOME FORMAL Te Awamutu ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS Thank you for NOTICES 80 Mutu Street If you want to joining us to What Happens in Court?
