Making the Table Runner

Begin by adding the white strips to both ends of 3 of the purple squares, then add a different coloured square to this, all blocks (width 7 ½”) – see photo for placement

Add 1 white strip to the ends of the other 2 squares, add a coloured block ,trim all blocks (width 7 ½”)

Add a white strip, followed by the purple triangles to one end of each piece, and one to each end of the centre strips, with RST together, join the pieces together with white strips, and trim the table runner – see photo for placement

Add white strips to the edges, top and bottom, trim corners – see photo for placement

Take your template, number the pieces and trace the pieces onto heat ‘n’ bond

Cut pieces 2,4,6, and 8 petals from the rose on cream fabric, add allowance and snip into this, press the seams towards to the middle, and sew to the centre of the table runner, I drew around my template using a ‘clover white marker pen’

Applique each piece, I changed my fabric to the miniature floral for the second row of petals, and used green for the outer row

Baste the top of the quilt onto the wadding, I use 505 temperaory basting spray To make the backing, cut from the 1 metre of Dainty Floral in Pink a piece measuring 44 ½” x 26 ½”, and with RST add a 10” x 18” piece (taken from your remaining fat quarters)to each side, find the centre by folding the table runner and finger pressing. Trim to create the points, and baste to the other side of the wadding, to create your quilt sandwich. Using the white marker pen, draw around your flower template on the two purple squares ajoining the centre flower, drop the feed dogs on your machine, and change to a quilting foot, and over these lines

Add the blue binding to your table runner, I like to machine sew by binding to the front and fold over and finish with hand sewing, that way no stitches can be seen

Your table runner is complete…

I couldn’t resist taking it outside, on the first sunny day of the year so far

It even got the seal of approval from my cat
