We celebrated the Grand Opening of the new City Hall and Victoria Library in February and March, with great crowds on hand for both events. In fact, over 1,000 people attended the Library’s Grand Opening celebration on March 7. The Library issued 87 new library cards that day alone, and checked out over 5,000 books, magazines, and DVD’s in March. The Library has been warmly welcomed by the community and is fast becoming a favorite public space for residents of all ages. At City Hall, the new technology in the City Council chambers will allow us to live-stream City Council meetings, allowing residents to stay in touch with the City at their convenience. We’ll be working over the next 5-6 months to go live with a service called Granicus that allow you to view the meeting online, live or at a later date. We will also be broadcasting City Council meetings on a Mediacom public access channel in the near future. Residents can always download the full City Council agenda, including staff reports, on our website. The City welcomes your questions, comments, and participation. Sign up for news alerts on our website and follow the City and the Carver County Library on Facebook to keep up with insights like these, special events, and more. We are looking forward to a summer of fun under the banner, “Victoria’s Centennial Celebration”. We hope you’ll take the calendar from the back page of this newsletter and keep it on your refrigerator or in some other handy place. Gather your friends and family and come out to one of the many events planned to remember the last 100 years and build new community memories for the next 100 years. Will you be the one to fi nd a medallion? Will your suggestion for the time capsule be one of the items that is included to tell future generations about what Victoria was like in 2015? Will you have the longest drive at the Centennial Golf Scramble? While we do not yet know the answers to these questions, we DO know we will have a great time in the process. See you this summer!
