Many people will talk about having integrity and val- ues, yet behind their words is a cloud of smoke. There is no substance. I’m extremely cautious when people begin to speak higher of themselves than others speak of them. Too often this is a sign that what they’re really doing is faking their character. Be a person who does what they say and lives a life that can be respected. Be more than words. Be a person of action and one whose reputation speaks for itself, not the other way around. This is where true character is found. This verse speaks of character being established through endurance. If you’re an athlete, you know there are no short cuts to winning a race or competition. Character is no different. You can’t wheel through some- where and grab it. You can’t just decide you have it and tell others that you do either. It’s built through endurance. Don’t check your character at the door. Make sure you are always a man or woman of good character, and the rest will always fall into place. I really love giving jewelry away; I actually love giving Entitlement is kind of like the old Janet Jackson song; “What anything away. But, I know that the gifts that Chuck has have you done for me lately?” Being a princess says take given me I can’t give away until I talk to him first. Those care of me, me, me! Empowerment says okay so I have pieces that he has sacrificed his time and energy and possi- shown up bly traded something of his own for me to have are more and I important to him and to me, because it represents more have than just a trinket. It represents sacrifice. Chuck loves it my when I cherish those pieces that he has laid down for me. His desire is for me to pick it up, use it and enjoy it. We are co-laborers together for our kingdom. So even though his heart is to lavish me with great gifts and to pamper me with bless- ings of a great spa day, he also desires that I stand side by side with him and fight for what we have; to advance our realm and take ground for our little king- dom. How draining it would be if he were out working all the time only to come home to a needy woman only caring about her desires. In the same way we treat our relationship with Christ; He came to give us life and is still looking for a bride, who will be in relationship with Him and follow after His heart and not His wealth. As we begin a new year, make this year about becoming the King or Queen for Christ; follow His example and know that we now live in victory. We see our country declining in many areas, espe- cially in our morals. I sometimes feel like Habakkuk cry- ing out to God screaming “Murder, rebellion; Lord, You’ve got to do something.” However, lately when I’ve asked the Lord when is He going to say something He’s turned it back on me asking, “When are YOU going to say something?!” When I ask when He plans to take a stand and make His presence known, He’s said to me, “When are YOU going to take a stand and make My presence known?!” I agree with the statement that says, “The only way for evil to flourish is for good folks to say nothing.” Lately, the naysayers have boldly proclaimed that God doesn’t exist, and all I’ve heard coming from the church is silence. I believe the Lord is telling us that it’s time WE stand up and let the world know that our God is an awesome God! The Lord inspired me and a friend to write a new song that I pray will touch the hearts of all believers … I would never suggest that we become violent or obnox- ious, but I still believe we need to speak out in a firm but Stand Up For Jesus loving voice saying that God is real and that He loves us. Wade recommended Avery into releasing a single “Take America Back” through HMG in 2013 and it charted to No. 3. At that same time Avery had also penned the song, “I’ll Stand Up For The Cross” that went to No. 1 for Hammond and was later nominated in the Top 10 for Song of the Year. ALBUM OF THE MONTHTHE GRASCALS WHEN I GET MY PAY

® The Grascals are Grammy Award-nominated and two-time Entertainer of the Year artists. They consistently release great music and their latest album, When I Get My Pay, kicks off their 10th year of being a successful Bluegrass band. When I Get My Pay is a 13-song album that further shows the musicianship and artistry that has made The Grascals so important to the Bluegrass world. Songs like “When I Fall In Love Again” and “Mister Fix It” have such a personality, while the players continue to excel on their instruments. “It Won't Break My Heart” is another standout track. This lyric is written beautifully. Co-written by Harley Allen and Brice Long, this sounds like a classic Country song. The album closes with an up-tempo song, “5 Miles To Milan.” The picking on this track is simply outstanding, as well. The modern twist The Grascals bring to Bluegrass continues to be remarkable. Everything about this album is spectacular. If you like Bluegrass, Country or Americana music, this album is for you!

MARY JAMES | COMFORT & JOY

Mary James has spent much of her life trying to live fully, fearlessly and to love God. Her latest album, Comfort & Joy, is a wonderful collection of Christmas songs, some classics, but also some songs that have been modi- fied. The new arrangements on songs like “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” and “A Silent, Holy Night” are spec- tacular. Plus, Mary James is a magnificent singer. Her tone is heavenly and she always pitch-perfect. Some of the standout songs are “God Is With Us” and “Joyful, Joyful.” “God Is With Us” is a moving ballad that further shows off the vocal prowess of James. The lyric is unbelievable strong, as well — 'love is raining down on the world tonight / there's a presence here I can tell.' You should definitely check this album this holiday season. There is peacefulness to the album, not to mention the presence you feel when listening to Mary James sing.

KIM MCLEAN | SHADOWS AND LIGHT

Kim McLean has released a new double-disc album titled Shadows And Light. McLean is one of the best underrated artists in Nashville. This talented singer-songwriter has multiple songs recorded by other artists and her latest album shows her strength as a recording artist in her own right. The album opens up with an acoustic/Americana-feeling song, “Tightrope.” Other standouts on the first disc are “Nothin' But The Truth” and “If I Were God.” “Nothin' But The Truth” is an honest, stripped down song about getting over losing some- one. “If I Were God” is a mid-tempo song with a great groove and feel. The witty lyric is worth noting too! Other standout songs on the Light album are “Water Wheel” and “Pray Love.” The album closes with a collab- oration with Jim McGraff and Tommy Parham, which is a fitting end to a great collection of songs. McLean is a great writer, a great artist and this project proves it.
