The challengers took part in the 262ft abseil climbing down the UK’s tallest sculpture. Among the participants were two members of St Clare Hospice staff - chef Samantha Hegarty and inpatient unit nursing assistant Alison Boggas. Samantha, who has worked at the hospice since 2014, took part with her sister, Debbie. The pair have raised a combined total of over £1,500, smashing their target of £400. Samantha said: "Abseiling the Orbit was one of the scariest yet most incredible experiences of my life! I don’t have a fear of heights but I do have a fear of falling so completing the highest freefall abseil in the UK was quite an achievement. "My sister and I abseiled together and we were laughing all the way down. "The view of London from the top was incredible. I really recommend abseiling the Orbit to anyone who likes a challenge and who has a good head for heights, or wants to overcome their fear of heights!" DISTRICT: Voluntary Action seeks Tesco votes 9.41am - 31st August 2017 VOLUNTARY Action Epping Forest Volunteer Centre is hoping for a cash boost from the Tesco Bags of Help initiative. Voluntary Action Epping Forest Volunteer Centre is one of the groups on the shortlist for funding with votes to be cast throughout September and October at the Tesco stores in Epping, Ongar and Theydon Bois. The Tesco funding will enable the Volunteer Centre to reach more potential volunteers and increase its recruitment of volunteers for community groups in the area. Customers will cast their vote using a token given to them at the checkout in store each time they shop.
