SOWEC Skills Lead Sector Deal PEOPLE and SKILLS – KEY COMMITMENTS

GOVERNMENT: KEY COMMITMENT • Government and Devolved Administrations will participate in a new industry-led People and Skills Delivery Group (Investment in Talent Group). OFFSHORE WIND SECTOR: KEY COMMITMENT • Develop a skills training needs analysis and an accreditation framework • Introduce a Workforce and Skills Model to track and report workforce data • Increase diversity in the workforce • Ensure the highest health and safety standards • Build early-stage skills and knowledge accessibility • Collaborations with universities expanded to support the RD&D workforce. • Review apprenticeship standards and increase apprenticeships SOWEC Vision and Strategic Goals (draft)

Vision: An offshore wind sector which plays to Scotland’s strengths, delivering jobs, investment and export opportunities in line with the UK Sector Deal as a key part of the path to net-zero.

Goals:

• Deliver at least 8 GW of offshore wind in Scottish waters by 2030. • Create a competitive, commercially-attractive offshore wind sector in Scotland which can deliver both domestically and in the global offshore wind market, with a focus on project development, deeper water capability and innovative technology solutions. • Work to increase local content in line with the ambitions set out in the UK Sector Deal, developing sustainable, world-class supply chain in Scotland. • The number of offshore wind jobs in Scotland will increase to more than 6,000: an increase of 75% on 2019 figures. SOWEC

Provide leadership to the industry in Scotland towards ensuring clean energy for the future with maximum economic benefit and growth potential. • Consider and mobilise action to address Sector Deal commitments and how they relate to Scotland and its differing policy landscape in the following areas:

Understand Skills Demand Skills Supply (Capability and Capacity) Sector Recruitment and Attractiveness Diversity in the Workforce Engage with the UK Investment in Talent Group Offshore Wind Scotland: Workforce Planning Understanding future skills demand is key to being able to make sure that you have access to appropriately trained and skilled people when you need them.

We are keen to understand the numbers of people in the industry, what the age profile looks like, what the gender split is, where the workforce is situated and then, following some significant analysis of the future investment portfolio we check the fit of today’s workforce with the future need.

In essence, we are looking for 4 key pieces of anonymized information revealing the following about each of your workforce:

• Job role • Gender • Date of Birth • Work location Postcode (factory, site, office etc)

July 2020 EDF RENEWABLES UK AND IRELAND

EDF Renewables UK and Ireland is one of the UK’s leading renewable energy companies, specialising in wind, solar and battery storage technology.

It develops, builds, operates and maintains wind farms and other renewable technologies throughout their lifetime. It has an operational portfolio of 36 wind farms – including two offshore wind farms – and one of the largest operational battery storage units in Europe.

2020 | NnG Update 28 ESB GROUP

ESB is Ireland’s leading energy company. It operates across the electricity market on the island of Ireland: from generation, through transmission and distribution to the supply of customers with an expanding presence across Great Britain. In 2017, ESB opened an office in Glasgow to spearhead further development of onshore and offshore wind across Scotland.

For over 90 years, ESB has been the trusted energy supplier to individuals and businesses on the island of Ireland and in recent years has been proud to extend these services to Great Britain through ESB Energy.

ESB, through its Brighter Future strategy, is committed to collaborating with like-minded partners on projects of scale to lead the transition to a low-carbon energy future based on clean, reliable, affordable electricity.

2020 | NnG Update 29 NNG PROJECT

Construction began in 2019 and is expected to last 3 years until first commissioning in 2022.

The Neart na Gaoithe (NnG) offshore will be located 15.5 km off the Fife coast and covers an area of approximately 105 km2. EDF Renewables UK and Ireland bought the project in May 2018 as part of a competitive bidding process.

The NnG site was chosen because it combines technical, economic and environmental deliverability. Some of the criteria that formed part of the site selection process included; water depth, ground condition, expected energy yield, access to port facilities and more.

NnG won a Contract for Difference (CfD) in 2015, providing the wind farm an inflation- linked strike price for the electricity it produces for a period of 15 years.

2020 | NnG Update 46 NNG – Supply Chain Engagement

Strong UK SCE since Blyth in 2014; NNG Coalition established in 2017 – No UK project has had to manage a 5 year gap from SCP submission to construction, a lifetime in OSW terms

Two Meet-The Buyer Series of Events – 2015 & 2020 500+ companies signed up for our 4 workshops in March 2020, both Clusters acted as delivery partners Detailed scope of work presentations from SGRE (Construction & O&M), Saipem, DEME, GE & Fred Olsen (Prysmian – COVID-19) ‘Share Fair’ concept – ORE Catapult, ESP, CES, Clusters, Supplier Development Scotland 1-2-1 meetings with all tier 1 contractors and NNG procurement and project teams arranged for circa 220 companies (40%) COVID-19 has likely curtailed the speed of further engagement, please follow up with the tier 1 contractors and NNG Procurement with this in mind

2020 | NnG Update 47 NNG – Early Engagement Reaping Local Benefits

The project is focussed on stimulating local benefit where it is practical to do so and where it has most benefit for Scotland – SME’s is where the impact is proportionally greatest: TVP Film & Multimedia (Aberdeen) – expecting renewables to deliver 20% of revenue Merrick Training (Dumfries) – practical and classroom training, plant movements Patrac (Glasgow) – debuted in wind on NNG in 2009, multiple survey scope of works

Whilst our tier 1 contractors will be progressing at pace with their own sub-contracting arrangements, please get in touch if you believe you have something to offer – tier 1 MTB feedback was extremely positive: Saipem – foundation package (to 2022) GE/HSM – substation package (to Q4 2021) Prysmian – export cable package (to Q4 2021) DEME Tideway – array cable package (to 2021) Fred Olsen – turbine installation package (to 2022) SGRE – turbine supply package (to 2022) / turbine O&M package (from 2022)
