Gally smooths over a resurgence of jealousy in Plimsoll on seeing Vee in the necklace, by claiming it is false, and Plimsoll gives it to Prudence for the church jumble sale. Dear old Clarence is still obsessed with his pig, while his sisters sniff their disapproval over everything. Add a gaggle of fearsome aunts, uncles and millionaires, mix in Freddie Threepwood, Beach the Butler and the gardener McAllister, and the moon is full indeed. Uncle Fred in the Springtime. Lots of good laughs and comical situations like only Wodehouse can set up. Lister, lurking in the gardens, glimpses an overjoyed Prudence on a balcony, but cannot catch her attention, so he fetches a ladder and climbs to the balcony. Complications ensue when the near-alcoholic Tipton thinks that Bill's gorilla-like face is an apparition brought about by too much drink; Lister, purporting to be a notable artist named Landseer , is commissioned to paint the portrait of Emsworth's prize pig, the Empress of Blandings ; and the valuable necklace of Freddie's wife, Aggie , goes missing. Instead, I just returned the book to the library. Lister soon ruins things, however, when after scaring Plimsoll once more and terrifying Veronica, he mistakes her mother for the cook and tries to bribe her to pass a note to Prudence. Galahad pops in and out of the plot at key moments to direct the action. Wodehouse is an amazing author, and I really loved reading this story. The event is related to a character after the fact and in passing. Error rating book. They shone on turret and battlement; peeped respectfully in upon Lord Emsworth's sister, Lady Hermione Wedge, as she creamed her face in the Blue Room; and stole through the open window of the Red Room next door, where there was something really worth looking at - Veronica Wedge, Lady Hermione's outstandingly beautiful daughter, who was lying in bed staring at the ceiling and wishing she had some decent jewelry to wear at the forthcoming County Ball. If you've read Wodehouse before, you'll belly up to the bar for this one for sure. No trivia or quizzes yet. Lord Emsworth isn't on stage as often as I'd like but he makes it count when he is. Wodehouse is an amazing author, and I really loved reading this story. The scenes where he does show up, however, are amusing and among the best parts of the novel. Despite the political and social upheavals that occurred during his life, much of which was spent in France and the United States, Wodehouse's main canvas remained that of prewar English upper-class so Sir Pelham Grenville Wodehouse, KBE, was a comic writer who enjoyed enormous popular success during a career of more than seventy years and continues to be widely read over 40 years after his death. You have the Ninth Earl, Lord Emsworth, his smooth talking brother Galahad Threepwood, the overbearing aunt, Hermione this time, unrequited love, and a pignapping.

And that’s before we get round to mentioning his 300 or so song lyrics, countless newspaper articles, poems, and stage plays. The 1998 edition of the Oxford English Dictionary cited over 1,600 quotations from Wodehouse, second only to Shakespeare.

G. Wodehouse created for our enjoyment. Add a dash of rannygazoo, a soupçon of ingenious wordplay, and a cluster of convivial companions and you have the basic ingredients for a Wodehouse novel—or A Weekend with Wodehouse in Norfolk, East Anglia, U.K., the destination of a jolly group of 43 Wodehousians from seven countries who took part in the festivities there from May 25 to 27, 2012. On Thursday night the Weekenders convened at Champagne Charlie’s near the Embankment in London to meet and greet All Weekenders received this custom-designed plate featuring the weekend’s logo. each other.
