WELCOME BACK TO BADER EVERYONE! On Thursday 3rd September 2020, Bader Primary School opened its doors once more and welcomed back ALL of our children. Aer such a long me away from school for some, it was wonderful to see everybody return, and with such posi ve atudes. Although school runs slightly differently now with staggered start and end mes and year group bubbles, our Bader Values (Being happy, Aiming high, Determina on, Excellence and Respect) remain. It has been great to see children back through the school gates with huge smiles, demonstra ng our ‘being happy’ value. We have also seen huge determina on from children wan ng to succeed with their learning.
While it may have felt strange returning to school at first, our morning rou ne with breakfast bagels and Wake and Shake have helped to start each day posi vely. Our assemblies are s ll occurring, although now in a different format via Zoom. It is great to see everyone on the interac ve whiteboards in the classroom!

PSHE In each classroom, we have introduced a worry box that gives children the opportunity to write down any worries or concerns they may have. Then, these are discussed and addressed in our daily bubble me. Aer such a strange me for everyone, it has been great to have the chance to discuss what it has been like for others to live through this event. Rights Respec ng Schools The Rights Respec ng Schools website states, “Unicef works with schools in the UK to create safe and inspiring places to learn, where children are respected, their talents are nurtured and they are able to thrive. Our Rights Respec ng Schools Award embeds these values in daily school life and gives children the best chance to lead happy, healthy lives and to be responsible, ac ve ci zens.” Aer receiving our Bronze award back in May, we are now con nuing our Rights Respec ng School journey and are hoping to achieve Silver award next March. Curriculum Children have returned to con nue with our broad and balanced curriculum. Alongside our Maths and English learning, we have begun to learn about a range of exci ng topics, including ‘Rocks’, ‘World War 1’, ‘the Romans’ and ‘Autumn’.
We are also con nuing to be healthy and par cipa ng in weekly P.E lessons with our new Sports Coach, Mr Bu ers. He has devised a new P.E curriculum focussing on minimum contact within lessons. He is part of the Bader family already! Shortly, Mr Bu ers will be re- introducing our exci ng aer school clubs within the bubbles.
Aer such a long me without lots of children in the building, we are once again feeling like a school, a community, a Bader family. Welcome back everyone! 20

Community Champions at Christ the King At Christ the King, we are passionate about our community and Thornaby. Staff, Children and Governors all try their best to serve our community as ‘Community Champions’. Our school choir sing at care homes and the local shopping centre at Christmas me. Our school community is involved in crea ng Christmas hampers to support less fortunate families in our local area. Children make prayer cards and Christmas cards to be delivered to the elderly and housebound of our parish with a reminder that we are keeping them in our prayers especially during these challenging mes. A group of twenty of our children have been commissioned as ‘Mini-Vinnies’, a youth group linked to the St Vincent De Paul Society. These children represent their peers and they meet to reflect on the teachings of Jesus and consider ways in which we can help our school community to live out the Good News. Inspired by words from Pope Francis, when he reminded us that our world is a shared gi, not a possession, Our Eco warriors set a fantas c example of improving environmental issues. We are passionate about caring for our environment. We have taken part in li er picking and caring for our local area. Welcome to Thornaby, Dimi! Christ the King welcomed Thornaby FC’s new star signing and Middlesbrough legend, Dimi Konstantopoulos, to school this term. It was an amazing experience for the children to talk to someone who lived his dream and achieved great success. Dimi talked to every class in school and answered the ques ons of the excited children. In par cular, he shared his life story and how he was once a young child in school who dreamed of being a footballer. He worked hard, showed commitment and followed his passion, something that we would hope every CTK pupil strives towards. Our Year 5 and 6 children also got the opportunity to showcase their skills to the Greek shot stopper. Of course, it was a compe on to see who could score past him first! Children (and teachers) tried their hardest to beat Dimi! The Boro legend has faced some of the best strikers in the world but he couldn’t stop some of the Premier League worthy strikes from our children. His advice and coaching were also excellent, it has inspired some of our talented footballers to aim high. The day wouldn’t be complete without a penalty shootout! Dimi showed off some amazing saves but some superstars managed to beat the 6 foot 3 keeper. Well done! It was also a dream moment for Christ the King’s number one keeper. Dimi held a coaching session and gave invaluable advice on how to save a penalty. Christ the King would like to say a huge thank you. Dimi was a gentleman from start to finish and was excellent with the children. Welcome to Thornaby!

It’s Good to be Back! Our gates finally opened again for all our children this September and it was good to see the wide beams on faces-especially parents and carers. The long wait and months of home schooling was thankfully over. Jubilant parents skipped through the green gates on Lanehouse Road to safely dispatch their children back into our care. Although we were able to allow 150 children back in July, it was great to see all of the familiar faces back with us - some happy and some a li le apprehensive and unsure as to what to expect. Government guidance had all being put in place, Curriculum Recovery plans drawn up and one way systems mapped out, all ready to be put to the test and we have to say that the children have responded brilliantly. We are so proud of our children and their families for returning in such good spirits to us and how quickly they have readjusted to be back at school.
Farewell Mrs. Bell The school bell rang me for the long serving Mrs. Bell. Mrs Val Bell had served as a classroom assistant and later school admin support for the last 38 years. Before that she was a parent and long before that a pupil at St.Patrick’s. For many years she was the face on recep on and the voice on the other end of the telephone and saw many coming and goings of children and staff. She saw three head teachers as well as hundreds of children and their families. Delivery drivers used to comment on the amount of years that she was with us. Many would say, “Are you s ll here?” She was more than the lady in the office. She was totally commi ed to the children of St.Pat’s- a ending lots of events and the many residen al trips to London, France and Holland. Val was the fount of all Thornaby knowledge- she knew everyone and their dog! We will miss having Mrs.Bell around school but will sure to keep in touch with her. Part of the Chroi is an outdoor chapel where class reflec ons and liturgies take place and there is a heart shaped grass mound and rocks where children can relax and enjoy nature and each other’s company.
A surprise from Marcus Rashford Marcus Rashford has become a household name now not just for his football. During lockdown Rashford teamed up with the poverty and food waste charity FareShare to ensure that over £20 million raised provided food for children at school con nue to receive free school meals. And in June, Rashford wrote an open le er to the government calling on them to end child poverty in the United Kingdom. Our Year 5 children decided to write to Marcus to thank him for his campaign and work for social jus ce. It meant that many of our children received meals and vouchers throughout lockdown. It was with great excitement that we opened a parcel with a signed shirt from him.
