General Characteristics of the District Narayanpur district is one of the two new districts created on May 11, 2007. It was carved out from the erstwhile Bastar district. This district occupies an area of 6640 km². Narayanpur town is the administrative headquarters of this district. 1.1 Location & Geographical Area. Narayanpur district is surrounded by Bijapur and Dantewada district in south, Bastar district in East, Kanker district in North and Maharashtra state in west. 1.2 Topography Narayanpur district lies in the Bastar Plateau, and consists of some rocky and some plain regions. 1.3 Availability of Minerals.
