ANNUAL REPORT 2017 – 2018

During the year, 28 new children took admission in the school. The total number of children in the school was 120. The school had 14 full time and 2 part time academic teachers,1 sports teacher, 2 activity teachers and 4 helpers.

Results :- • S.S.C - results were very good for the Marathi Medium. Anagha scored 66% , Advait and Shruti both scored 63%. Anagha got 90 in Hindi which was excellent. In English Medium, Ayushi got 41.83%. - but did not clear Maths. Harsh cleared all papers except Maths and Science. Ayushi cleared the remaining two Maths papers in the SSC re-exam conducted in July. We are glad that she did not lose an academic year.

• NIOS Results – 4 children cleared Data Entry, 3 - Marathi, 2 - Home Science, 1 - Business Studies and 3 - English.

 Tilak Vidyapeth – 4 children appeared for the Marathi Uchha Stariya - Dusri Pariksha. Gayatri Kale top scored with 60, Rujuta Khare got 54 and Pritam Patil and Athang Sabale got pass class.

Hindi Rashtrabhasha - 7 students appeared for the Hindi Rashtrabhasha Balbodhni in February 2017. Pranjal Lanjekar top- scored with a first class. 3 children scored first class.

Ongoing activities • 5th June - World Environment Day was celebrated. This year we have taken up "Cleanliness " as our project for the year. A pledge of cleanliness was taken in Hindi by all the children. The ground and all the classrooms were cleaned meticulously. The children also planted saplings and drew pictures of nature. • 7th June - Karate sessions started with a new group of children. • 24th July - Tilak Jayanti was celebrated. Since 23rd July was on a Sunday, it was celebrated on 24th, Monday. The youngest children from LIV performed a small skit based on an episode which happened when Lokmanya Tilak was in school. It was really nice to see the little ones performing so well. Rachna Mahajan and Akhil Menon recited a long poem depicting the same episode. We decided to celebrate the Jayanti this year rather than the Punyatithi. • 3rd August - A safety drill was taken. • 14th August - Gopal Kala was celebrated. The children enjoyed dancing to the rhythmic beats of the dhol- tasha. Sai + Arya and Dev + Ekaansh came dressed as Radha and Krishna respectively. • 15th August - Independence Day was celebrated by the entire staff of Prism Foundation. Flag hoisting was done by Shri. Y.G. Patwardhan. • 17th August - Class Photos were taken. • The Ganpati decoration was done. All the children had made attractive decorative items under the guidance of Neeti Paranjape and Prachi Kalgaonkar. • 07/09/2017 - Teachers' Day was celebrated. The senior children managed the whole school very well. They also conducted some games for the teachers. Black was the colour chosen this year, by the children, for the teachers. Prism Foundation presented the staff with a very nice gift. The smaller children had also made cards for the teachers. On the whole , a very enjoyable day ! • 09/09/2017 – Ms. Sangeeta Phatak and Ms. Pushpa Jagtap were felicitated by Lions Club of Poona, , on the occasion of Teachers’ Day. It was a good suggestion by Prism to felicitate the helpers, this year. • 27 & 28/09/2017 - The Annual Medical check - up was done. • 6th October - The Diwali Party was enjoyed by all. The children danced with abandon - Dandiya and Garba. The snacks were also enjoyed by all. Gifts were presented by an organisation, Safe Air, to all the children. The members of the organisation went personally to each child and handed over the gifts. • 11th November - The funfair was enjoyed by all. The parents and children all enjoyed the food and games stalls. 7 tables were set up by parents. • 14th November - Children's Day was celebrated. The teachers conducted the assembly and distributed sweets to the children. • 14th to 16th November - Anand Jatra was organised by Srujanrang. All the children enjoyed. • 02/12/2017 - Our annual concert was at Tilak Smarak Mandir. The theme was "Seema ". The chief guest was Captain Rastogi from the National Defense Academy , Khadakvasla. He was accompanied by his wife Mrs. Rastogi and also a few other officers from NDA. It was indeed a matter of great pride for us. They appreciated all the items in the programme - the skits, dances, songs and specially the items dedicated to the army. The children performed wonderfully. It was an occasion which we will cherish in the days to come. • 21st December 2017 - The Annual Sports Day was organised on the school premises. The chief guest was Mrs. Bhatade ( Anagha's mother ). The team events had been conducted the week before. The children enjoyed the races. The older children helped a lot in the organizing and execution. The academic prizes for 2016 -2017, General Proficiency and Good Conduct, for all levels, were given on the Sports Day. This year, this was done to reduce the number of prizes being given on the day of the concert, as it was taking too long every year. This saved at least 20 to 25 minutes, this year, on the day of the concert. • 07/02/2018 - Neeti Paranjpe went to observe lessons in LARC and Jay Sir came to Phoenix to observe as decided. Pramila Pukle observed MOVS and Suvarna Madam from MOVS came to Phoenix. They have submitted a report on this activity. • 10/03 /2018 - A farewell party was organized for the outgoing batch of students - NIOS and Pre - Voc. It was a very emotional occasion. The children, along with all the teachers, spoke individually , about their experiences and feelings. The children were presented with a gift and a medal as a memento. The children also enjoyed the pav-bhaji and ice-cream.

REGULAR FUNCTIONS AND COMPETITIONS CONDUCTED THROUGHOUT THE YEAR

They all performed asanas, surya namaskar, pranayam. 2 Guru Pornima - The children presented a group dance and song, individual tabla, peti and vocal music. They also presented a skit and stories of famous guru-shishya pairs in Marathi, English and Hindi. 3 Marathi Elocution Ms. Rajashree Khade The children performed well, each Competition according to their abilities.

The Competition younger children recited poems. 6 English Elocution Ms. Suchitra Thipse The topic was "Famous Indian Competition Personalities" 7 Shardotsav - Handwriting competition 8 The Annual Social Captain Rastogi from the "Seema" - Dances, dramas, songs etc in National Defense Academy, keeping with the theme. Other Activities : • 21st July- The election to choose the Students' Council was conducted. The results are as follows :-

• 22nd August - The children from NIOS and Pre -Voc under the guidance of Pratibha Kulkarni and Sucheta Pawgi set up Phoenix Mall. Lots of articles made by the children were on sale like - dry chutneys, ladoos, chivda, stationery items, decorative diyas and envelopes, glass paintings etc. The children had been told to bring a small sum to shop. The parents were also invited. The sale was very good considering that it was only for 2 hours. MOVS products were also sold. The total sale was Rs 8005/- out of which Rs 1655/- was the sale of MOVS products. • 22nd December 2017 - This year, a fancy dress competition was organised for LIV and LIII. There were 11 entries. It was a good beginning. The children were looking really sweet and were very happy to be all dressed up. Neeti P and Prachi K were the judges. The Christmas Party was enjoyed by all the children. They enjoyed the snacks and danced to the music. • 28/02/2018 - Science Day was celebrated. Projects related to Science topics ,made by the children, were displayed. All the children from all the classes came to see the projects. • 09/03/2018 - "Utsah" - our children's magazine was released. This year, Prachi Kalgaonkar and Rashmi Bhagwat were in charge. • 22/03/2018 - World Water Day was celebrated. Methods of water conservation and water purification were discussed in each class to increase awareness about this important issue. The notice board was decorated with pictures and a poem relevant to the topic. • 17/03/2018 - A session for parents was taken by Sushama Joshi, on using different methods to develop the English language, at home. This was requested specially by the parents of Marathi Medium children. They were happy with the methods suggested.

Pre-vocational Activity • The Friday cooking activity is continuing. The children prepare snacks for the teachers and classmates.

Exhibition • 22/02/2018 - An exhibition of the projects made by the children was open for viewers from 10.00 am. to 12.00 pm. The projects were arranged in each classroom. The children explained beautifully - right from LIV. Since each child was involved, they were very happy. Very few parents attended - not even half. It was disappointing for the children.

Workshops • 5th July - There was a meeting in the SSC Board office regarding privileges to be given to children with Learning Disabilities appearing for Maths during the SSC Board Exam. There were 3 special educators and psychologists from Mumbai and some from Apte Prashala, Ankur and other schools. Sushama Joshi from Prism attended the meeting. The recommendations were given after deliberation and discussion.

Outside competition • 14th November – The results of the Child Art Competition conducted by Young Envoy’s International, Hyderabad were outstanding as usual. Out of the 41 children who participated, 5 won Gold Medals and 16 won Jury Honours and 20 participation certificates.

Internship :- • Ahilyadevi Dhaygude from Karve Institute of Social Sciences, has started coming for field work from 22nd August 2017 on Tuesdays & Fridays. • Poonam Chandgude, the intern from Bharti Vidyapeeth, came from January to April .

Volunteers • Jaya Andhare, one of our old teachers, came for remedial tutoring for LII, LIII and LIV - thrice a week, on a voluntary basis. This has helped the children a lot. • Kanchan Patankar, who used to come to teach Science to our LI children, has started coming as a volunteer to take remedial sessions for Maths and Science, for the English and Marathi Medium children.

Parents Workshops • 12th August - The first workshop for parents was conducted by Ms. Sushama Joshi. 55 parents attended. ( Subject - 'Dealing with Learning Disabilities' ) • 17/02/2018 - The second parents' workshop was conducted by Ms. Vasudha Gokhale. 23 parents attended. Parents could see the second unit papers and meet the teachers on that day. • 17/03/2018 - The third workshop was taken by Ms Sushama Datar and Ms Smita Deshpande on 'klaanaMd'.

Visits • 30th June - 120 students from Abhinav High School came to interact with children like last year. • 11th August - 15 students of M.A Psychology Part II, from Fergusson College came to visit the school. • 18th August - 30 students, from TMV College, Department of Social work, came to visit the school. They asked a lot of relevant questions. It proved to be a fruitful interaction. • 21st August - 4 Canadian students from Symbiosis Centre For International Education spent the whole day interacting with the children. • Students from Fergusson College and St. Mira's came to get information about Prism Foundation.
